So I've been buying quite a number of games lately, and when trying to put them into some kind of order on my virtual shelf I couldn't help noticing that the current method of sorting games is very tedious. It seems that you can only change their order by swapping the positions of two games. However, it is not possible to drop a game in between two others, which would make the process much easier. Nor is it possible to move more than one game at a time.

If I'm not mistaken, the current method takes about n-squared drags-and-drops to sort your game library (where n is the number of games you own). You can see how this can get annoying rather quickly when you own a large number games. However, the sorting would only take n steps if it was possible to move games without swapping... Just something to think about for the GOG team, maybe.
I have to agree, it can be rather tedious if you wish to only move one or a few games out of your entire library.
I assume you are trying to sort them by something other than the automatic sorts (purchase date or alphabetical), correct?

Yeah, I'm trying to sort the games by genre and theme, more or less. The alphabetical sorting also works, of course, but I prefer something a little more intuitive.
I support this complaint.

Though I do sort my games by name, I don't always agree with the automatic order, so I sort them manually.
I noticed this the other day.

I decided I just wont be sorting the shelf. >.>
i would love an improved sorting mechanism (currently have mine manually sorted with all the ones i havent done yet first)
