"The Future of Resident Evil is right before your eyes. But is it really Raccoon City all over again?
"The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil." That's a quote from Capcom UK's head of marketing, Dave Turner, via Joystiq, speaking about RE6"

THIS IS NOT A DRILL, I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL
Welcome to 2005.
First, you are not funny.
Second, did you even like or even play any RE? This was never an RPG or a complex game. RE was always a console franchise about shooting zombies nothing more.
Third, RE5 was already stripped from any remnant of its survival horror roots and became an action shooter so I fail to see how this one could be more "dumbed down".

Actually at least RE1 & RE0 had a good amount of puzzle solving in them, giving them a bit fo an adventure game feel.
RE4 was a huge disappointment for me. It was not a bad game, but nor was it anything special. It was just another action game, with a horror theme (but with no actual horror).
In the past, I found the puzzles and combat annoying in the RE games. What made them good in my eyes is the zombies, the other monsters like the Nemesis, and the difficult survival situations(surrounded by zombies but only have 2 or 3 bullets.) If RE6 is like a COD that puts you in difficult survival situations with zombies and other monsters then it will be a huge improvement over previous RE games.

1-3 & 0 are survival horror games which basically combine adventure games puzzles with bad shooting and tank controls. The enemies are just there to be a nuisance and to cover up the fact that the puzzles were kinda boring (most where about finding keys and involved a lot of backtracking).
4 & 5 are pure action games and 6 will be too. The shooting is the main focus but 4 had some puzzles but with hardly any backtracking. 5 was all action and they added coop.
None of the games were scary at all. Both had a leveling system for the guns and a shop which didn't exist before.
Anyway, my point is that Roman is doing his usual thing to try and get some attention but fails to see that since number 4 the RE had already became a different genre that isn't complex to begin with. There is nothing that they can take away from it anymore. So he is just making this topic because in his mind it is "cool" to hate on new games.

In resident evil you had to manage ammos, think your approach to situations. In call of duty you need to drink as much energy drinks as possible.. I finished all the COD games at the hardest difficulty without having to worry too much about anything. When I would die I would just take another random approach and it would work.

Roman5: CASUALIZATION AND DUMBING DOWN OF A FRANCHISE IS APPROACHING
I'm really sick and tired of the sheer arrogance that seems to come across when people use "casual" as a pejorative. Or whenever people say that they want to try to appeal to an audience outside of their traditional fanbase and people hop up and down with cries that their beloved game is getting "dumbed down".

Like with your ME3 thread, for instance. I've never played an ME game in my life, not out of hatred for Bioware or EA; I just never got around to it because of a million and one other things in my life. Still, I appreciate good writing and good plot and story in games, and I like good action and compelling Sci-Fi, too - so ME would be a great game for me. I'd ideally like to jump into ME3 at first too, since it's the latest title, and likely go back to ME and ME2 once I'm done.

I'm not one of the traditional ME fanbase, so I guess that makes me one of Bioware/EA's target market with ME3. I'm glad that they've gone to the trouble of making it so that people like I don't have to be bogged down in what could be tons upon tons of exposition and backstory, like what seems to be the case in FF XIII-2. And that's supposedly wrong because it "dumbs down the game"? Seriously, people like that need to grow up and remember that they are not the centre of the universe.

In RE 1-3 you had to manage the ammo and it was smart to run from slow enemies instead of wasting ammo. In RE4-5 the ammo was abundant and you never felt that you should save it for later. Heck, in RE5 you could even buy ammo from the store between levels. Starting with RE4 the series took a new direction so I don't see how RE6 will be any different.
What Roman does is check every PC news site and look for any mention to CoD, then he thinks of a "witty" thread title (only he thinks it's witty), and then posts without having actually read what he is posting about. I think he needs help, his OCD is stopping him from functioning like a normal person.

Really? All I saw was some odd-shaped keyholes and odd-shaped keys. Finding two holes where an emblem would fit and placing two emblems in said holes is not puzzle-solving.

I only played the GC versions (I have tried the PS1 version of RE1, but never spent more than a few min with it), but there were a bit more complex puzzle solving than what you describe in it.
Besides what people have posted, RE: ORC, isn't even set in the traditional series. It's it's own little "What If?" Universe. The fact you play as an Umbrella Operative alone makes this awesome for me at least, add in the co-op, plus the 3rd person shooter perspective and I'm all about it.

I've played every RE save 5, and that's generally because I just didn't have the cash at hand. That said, I like how the series is going and continues to add new perspective, in this case the bad guys.

Honestly, I don't see how this is that bad. Especially if you grew up playing it on the consoles to begin with. Seems to be a lot of Elitist Hate on this board. That's not cool bros.
I have lost hope in resident evil ever since i played res4. There's no way back now, it's a different game. Code Veronica is my favorite and one of the best survival horror games ever but sadly ever since the 4th one resident evil has turned into a brainless zombie that is no different from the other brainless zombies out there (and what's worse is that the last two games didn't even have zombies). All you can do is either run away from it and keep your safe distance or shoot it in the head.
Is this going to be one of Romans "complaining about an unreleased game" thread?

morciu: ...(and what's worse is that the last two games didn't even have zombies)...
Hell yeah, I'm bored of the "Las Plagas" infected people. Luckily it seems RE6 will have regular T-virus zombies as seen on the trailer. I'm hoping for the return of the Tyrant too.
Personally, I enjoyed the first games in the series but after CV I think they had become repetitive. There is only so many ways of getting keys, mixing chemicals, and pushing statues. The combat wasn't fun either and it was only there to differentiate RE from a regular point and click adventure game.
