(AKA star blazers)

I just got done watching the live action movie for this .... it was like watching a HD version of all the Live Action bits from Wing Commander III assembled into one full movie and capped off with a mix of the shitty ending where you failed to destroy Kilrah and the other shitty ending where you did blow up Kilrah but ended up alone and dejected because you got your girlfriend killed.

.... really great show but damn did it have what I like to call a "Japanese Ending."
Oh, the movie with the lead actor Kimura Takuya? If yes, that's the Yamato movie I go to see in theatre here in japan last year. Nice little movie, some botched effects but nothing that would ruin the whole movie. ^_^

Sogi-Ya: what I like to call a "Japanese Ending."
Hm. I really shouldn't say it.

Wow, is this what restraint feels like?
Japanese ending is where the main character dies .... usually by means of some kind of glorious suicide like Seppuku or some form of kamikaze attack.

as opposed to a Chinese ending, where in everyone else BESIDES the main character has been killed.

and a Holywood ending where no one dies but the main bad guy.

.... or were you just making a Bukkake reference?

(restraint? waz be that?)
While I did enjoy the cultural enlightenment, yes, I was going for the dirty. I already made an obscene joke yesterday so I am trying to pace myself. I can't help but to imagine what the other national endings would be?
Germany?
Ireland?

In Polish movies, does everyone go home with a copy of TW2?

Nope. On Polish movies there is no audience.
Any news on a Western release?
just Pirate it, well ... pay for it if you can find a cheap bootleg, but your still gonna have to go for a fan sub if you don't speak Japanese 'cause it's not getting localized.

Disney owns the rights for a NA / "Western" live action star blazers movie, and they have no intention of releasing this film ... in fact they are in the works for developing/filming their own movie, with western actors, western plot, western setting, and possibly a western ship (the last version they had for this involved the "Space Battleship Arizona" ... ya know the one that got sunk at pearl harbor).

it's like the whole Macross vs Robotech issue all over again.
Okay as I total anime fan I have to say this: I have not seen the live action Space Battleship Yamato, which maybe I should be ashamed to admit, b/c I love the Yamato universe.

Having said that, if you think the live action movie was bad, and you haven't seen the original series and the film spinoffs, you will not be disappointed. It was one of the best sci-fi anime shows ever, I rank it up there with vintage Gundam (back when Tomino was in charge of it) and Macross/Robotech.

I'm partial to each for different reasons. I grew up on Robotech so I can't hate on it too much, and I like Macross cause without it there wouldn't have been a Robotech, or Macross Frontier XD
my point is that the reason why we don't have the newer (and totally awesome) Mascross stuff is due to licencing issues where the western rights to these old series were outright sold, and as such the actual developers no longer have the legal right to release their current works without the consent and participation of people who bought them for chump change back in the 70's.

harmony gold owns the western rights to all Macross releases, and they are blocking all the current Macross titles from getting released with demands for exceedingly high premiums (and probably want extensive edits as well) ... Macross Plus got through because it was released when Harmony Gold was at a low point and didn't block it, sense then they have rebounded off of the renewed interest in the series and are back to defending their rights to the IP. why the fuck Shoji Kawamori didn't buy them when they were basically bankrupt I do not know ...

This live action version of SBY simply can not be released in the US/EU unless it is through Disney (because they own the western rights to any live action versions of this IP), and that simply aint happening with all of the Japanese nationalistic themes / characters getting graphically killed.
