So my really brother loves space sims, so I plan on buying him one for Christmas from GOG. And I'm looking for a Sim, not a dog fighter, one that has good trading. so out of the GOG catalog which would you suggest?
To my knowledge all of the space sims on GOG are combat focused - the only one that may be slightly different is Darkstar One.

If you want a deep sim then look at the X series
I recently got Space Rangers 2.

Havent played it much, but looks like it has a decent trading element, though it's really a crossover between RPG, space combat, RTS, advanture, and trading. You may want to look into, its definitely a somewhat unconventional game so read some reviews to get an idea of it.

Are you looking for space ship piloting type games or strategy games? Either way, I can give you lots of recommendations outside of GOG if you want.

Like Bigs said, most here on GOG are combat based, though still awesome.

My 2 favorite modern ones are X series and Evochron series, however. Both have their pros and cons, but the X series is more polished, probably because more than 1 person works on those games.

I've heard good things about I-WAR 1. It's combat oriented but you command capital-class ship not fighter and as a result you must swich among bridge, engine, turrets etc.. Got it on my shelf, waiting for a proper time :-D

EDIT: Heh, haven't seen 'trading' part. There is no trading in I-WAR. ..And sim stands for simulation , right ? Not for genre (like cim city)?

Well Sim city is a city simulator. Anyway thanks guys for the suggestions. while the X series looks good, with the GOG sale I'm going to be able to buy him more then one game, and I'm going with space ranger 2 for his space Sim. Unless of course the price drops for X.

The X Superbox was on sale for $10 a few days ago on GamersGate. It should probably be this price again on the Steam sales, maybe on GG as well (you can activate it on Steam if you want). It contains the whole series until now, including the new X3: Albion Prelude.
If you're interested, I have a copy of X3 gold on Gamersgate. Let me know if you're interested to trade in something for it, maybe some GOGs. We can work things out :)

Yes indeed.
You could try Evochron Mercenary from http://www.starwraith.com/evochronmercenary/index.htm its only like $30 and completly sandbox in your approch to the game I have played this since release and have enjoyed it, also the multiplayer community is very heplful and nice, there are a few exceptions from some of the clans but generally you can just be left alone if you want.

Now 50% off (that's 20$/€ for the superbox) for the next 21 days on GG. May get lower in steam sales though

Nah, Darkstar One is definitely combat.
A few stealth/recon missions, but the rest is flying to some spot and dispatching a bunch of hostiles.

But this got me looking and it seems I'll need to try Freespace 2 again after visiting www.hard-light.net and pimping it up.
Wing Commander: Privateer is on here but it's a bit old now, DOSbox and sprite based
I've not played it but I did play Privateer 2, that was pretty good but it's not here and is apparenly pretty broken on modern machines, sadly

GamersGate has been matching some of Steam's prices lately. So, when the X-Superbox goes for sale on Steam, I suggest waiting a few hours, as GamersGate may drop their price as well, and it's the best option since it gives you the game on both places.
