Consider a career in dungeon design!

Legend of Grimrock, the phenomenal dungeon-crawling old-school RPG (now with a built-in Dungeon Editor!), is now available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $7.49 until Monday, October 8 at 3:59 AM GMT.

Job opportunity! Grimrock Dungeon Ltd. is looking to fill the position of SENIOR DUNGEON DESIGNER. We give you a chance to offer your creative input into the extension and development of the legend of traditional penitentiary facilities: The Grimrock Dungeon. For centuries our facility provided the best services in the area of adventurer detention and we won the "Oubliette Digest" editor's choice award 129 times in a row. At this point we'd like to dismiss the recent rumors about a party of heroes escaping from Grimrock. The said party was in fact a group of professional dungeon auditors, hired by Grimrock Dungeon Ltd. to find the potential security flaws. Their final report inspired staff exchange (our previous Dungeon Designer volunteered to test the new torture chamber) and large-scale dungeon re-design. From our new Senior Dungeon Designer we expect creativity, deviousness, full commitment, and experience in granite stone construction. Sadistic inclinations and a good command of troll language will be regarded as additional assets. We provide weekly wages in gold, rock-solid accommodation, health potions, and wenches. Please apply by raven.

Yes! Legend of Grimrock, the ultimate delight for hardcore old-school dungeon crawling RPGs, has been updated with a Dungeon Editor! All of the traps, pits, monsters, and dead-ends that tormented countless gamers now lie at your fingertips. You can put all of your experience in being tormented by the devious underground into tormenting others with your very own sinister creations. To celebrate the release of this highly anticipated creative addition we are now offering Legend of Grimrock 50% off! That's only $7.49 for the fulfillment of your darkest dungeon crawling desires!

If you already own the game, please head out to My Account, click the Legend of Grimrock box, and download the newest version that includes the Dungeon Editor (accessible from the game's main menu).

Lead a party of adventurers through the perilous depths of moldy dungeons or design your very own adventure in Legend of Grimrock, for only $7.49!

Nirth: I downloaded it 5 seconds ago so I can see that now but I can't see that in My Games section. It only says 1.0.0.
avatar
Miaghstir: Because the web page truncates the installer's version number to the first three parts.
I can see that but that's not really ideal in case games only update on numbers that isn't shown.

For example, like this game. Personally it wasn't an issue because other people reacted to it and the game size was rather small it took no time to redownload the game. It becomes a problem for games such as Witcher 2 where the size is huge and you can't see the specific version.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's a good idea, only that that's how it seems to be handled. If they use more than three parts, they should show more than three parts.

(I'd like to see the date/time of the update, filesize, checksum, game and installer version, and a list of changes... and preferably a full history with the same info for each update so far, but I do realise that won't ever happen.)

Even better. :)

mistermumbles: No, you're just confusing the grid-based gameplay with a turn-based one. You can sit still in one square and the enemy will still be moving around. Attacks take time to 'power up'. Sometimes you will have to run away to regain strength over time.

vinaysshenoy: Oh, ok.. That's cool, then! How's the game from an RPG POV? The closest game to this I've played to this would be Arx Fatalis(only a bit), considering the setting. And while I don't mind puzzles in games, I don't especially like them. Is the game worth it, considering my preferences?
It's in the style of the old dungeon crawlers like Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder. There isn't a whole lot to the RPG elements other than choosing from some different stats/skills as you level up. Even then there may not be all that much from which to choose. It's a relatively simple system, for the most part. Spells you acquire via rune scrolls. You'll actually have to remember them or write them down (like I did), since there is no instant button to spell cast. You have to use the right runes in the right order.

There are some puzzles in the games, but most of them aren't overly difficult; some are based on timing. There's one or two trickier ones though later on. Just make sure you thoroughly look around. The game will give you hints on how the puzzle works via scrolls or wall markings/signs you find here and there.

Fights can be tough when you get cornered, but if you keep awareness of your surroundings none of them are insurmountable.

I recommend you (re?)watch the trailers on Grimrock's gamecard and keep what I wrote in mind. If that sounds like something you'd enjoy go ahead and take the plunge. ;) Now that the dungeon editor is out there's bound to be sufficient new content coming out as well besides the pretty decent campaign that comes with the game.

Personally, I've really enjoyed this one, and I'm very much looking forward with what other people come up.

Dungeon Master & Eye of the Beholder are better games than this. The first four levels of Grimlock are good, but by level six I was starting to lose interest, by level 10 I realised I definitely had lost interest and by level 14 I was thinking...hasn't this game ended already. The final boss appeared and I almost couldn't keep my eyes open. Hopefully the editor will add some much needed sting to this game. The creatures were really only Grimlocks interesting feature.

Dungeon Master was much more of an intelligent game, as was Eye of the Beholder.

Well I've played this game through when it was released, and personally, I've enjoyed every moment of it. I had a big stupid grin on my face the whole time.
Thanks! I watched a few gameplay videos last night someone PM'd me.. I'll probably be picking it up.. :-)
Ah, that embarrassing moment when you get a great deal from GOG, run for it only to find out that you already own this game... Oh sadness!
If you'd rather give 100% of the proceedings to go to the actual creators of this game, it's also on -50% sale on the official website at http://www.grimrock.net/

Ahem, GOGWiki. Adopt a game, and take over its changelog yourself. Do you just love Tex Murphy? Be sure to update the respective pages when an update happens.
I do try to keep the installer hashes up to date, as well as adding the new games to the wiki, but there's a limit to how much one person can do.
So, we have a Wiki, add data to it. :)

I'm well aware of that, I helped a bit before it went public. Every once in a while I have the intention of helping out more, but I'm a lazy bastard and realise I just want the information despite having no actual use for it, so I get back to doing nothing.

I do thank you for actually doing something though, far too many are like me and can't be arsed.
Great news for a great game.

Can somebody recreate the whole of Dungeon Master now please? :)

Aw, man! I do hope that actually happens.

tfishell: Should the main game page mention that the purchase now includes the editor? (I didn't see it mentioned anywhere.)
Fixed. ;)

I apologize for that, the product page should have been updated the moment the patch was launched.

Oh, no problem. I don't have a computer that can run the game :(, so it didn't affect me, but I figured I'd bring it up. :)
