Was going to get SF Platinum from here but the demo that I've downloaded won't even initiate.
Just wondering if this might be a bad demo and if anyone else has tried the demo and had that problem?
Quite possibly the full version will run but it is a ten dollar risk.By the by - it's not a system requirements thing. I surpass those.

Depends how rich you are, and how much 10 bucks means to you.
Personally I wouldn't do it, as the demo is the ultimate litmus test for a game before I buy it on GOG. Sadly I've been burned a few times and have had demos that worked perfectly, only to find out that the full game didn't run as smoothly as the demo - after I bought it.

So if the demo won't work, I certainly wouldn't risk it with the full game.
These are older games, demos often don't have the patches applied to them ever. Just because you have a problem with an old demo doesn't mean you'll have a problem with the full game. If 10 bucks means that much to you, go for a more sure thing, if you're pulling down a professional salary or can pass on 2 beers in the bar this week, you've got little to lose.
Is there any way to find out how old is the demo? GOG's version is the Platinum, fully patched one. Chances are it will run, but if you don't want to riks it, risk less near christmas, hoping they do some crazy sale and Spellforce gets included.

Windows 7 could be the culprit if you're running that though. I'm on XP and the game doesn't give me any problems.
Well if you're not sure on the game, have a search on youtube for some gameplay videos, its not QUITE the same as playing but a lot faster than messing with demos

Spellforce certainly runs in Ubuntu 10.4 x64, though the mouse pointer doesn't quite seem to line up.

I'm pretty sure I also have it installed and running on Windows 7 x64 but I haven't booted into Windows in weeks.
Spellforce's configuration file is done in LUA and Win XP doesn't have the language preinstalled to manually open and edit.

I've got LUA installed now but something is still preventing LUA from executing.

I've taken down my third party firewall and added an exception in Windows firewall as well as checked it off in Data Execution Prevention.

Still no luck.

90% of what I install works and runs. Two other graphics programs did not because I'm running an old, single core, AMD processor but Spellforce is an old game. I got an error message in those situations however.

The only two other programs that have done this to me were the driver installation executables for my HP printer/scanner and the learning edition of 3D modeling software called 'Fusion.'

All other instances and with everything else there has been no problem.

I am positive that it WILL work once I get around to installing my new hard drive but whatever has been flicked off on this one doesn't like those three programs.

So I kinda could spend the ten and back it up to disc until I have the new drive installed.
