Well looks like Brad is a liar and looks like he is for sale to the highest bidder. I bet Impulse turns into Steam in all it ugliness now that we just lost our gamer rights since Game Stop took over. I am pissed about this... Glad I didn't buy any full price versions from them or I would be ballistic right now...

Never did get into Impulse. Sure they sold some DRM free games, but considering you couldn't download the installer and backup you were as dependant on it as on Steam when needing to reinstall.
And even less user friendly than Steam or any of the others I've tried for installing bought stuff.
Impulse was as much DRM I can stand which like DrakeFox said still had to have it as no installer was included like here at Gog.com. I am now limited to GoG.com for online buying it's all store if GameStop screws with the freedoms we have now with impulse such as installing on all PC's I own so my children can play with me with once game buy that steam doesnt allow...

Both Direct2Drive and GamersGate offers DRM free software too. They mark it as such.
For GamersGate though it takes a bit of fiddling to get to keep the installer without running through their downloader. It downloads the install files to a folder, then it renames a file (Installer I think) to the actual installer .exe file and runs it. While the install wizard is up it's an easy task to copy the installer .exe file, quit the installer and then rename the file to the proper name.
