It has to be one of the worst ideas of the year. Or do they intentionally try to get rid of europeans?
I'm hoping more 2005+ games will come to GOG. Right now it's like the only reasonable place for digital downloads :(
Apparently. But frankly, they got rid of me for everything but a few Steam exclusives when they started having separate catalogs for Europeans and Americans.
In this day and age, there really is no excuse for the way games are distributed. There should be none of this "the US gets to download these games and the Europeans have to wait". It's this kind of behavior that lends ammunition to the pirates making their excuses as to why they pirate in the first place.
Insane, wont be buying anything on steam with that pricing. Steam pricing have always been off, but this is unacceptable.
Just another step discriminating Europeans. Not a surprise coming from Valve

I may live in the States, but that's ridiculous.
Sure, I get screwed over on prices for European software and hardware, but that's just how the exchange rate works at the moment. (At the moment, 50 Euros = 72 US$. Before, the equivalent was just 62.5 US$! It just keeps getting worse!) Not much I can do about it. However, they at least try to keep their prices reasonable.
In fact, I even considered moving to Europe in the far future just because of the currency here being weak against the Euro and GBP. That is, until I remembered about policies like this, which would lead to me being even more screwed over than I am now.
Oh well, there's not much more you can do aside from voting with your wallet. That seems to be the only way that they'll get the message.
Euro members, I share your pain here in Australia. While we don't pay VAT or a similar tax, publishers either ignore us or have started to charge obscene amounts. (upto 50% higher)
Aside from a couple of indie titles and whatever the next Half-Life game is, there is not much to keep me using the service.

The news post vs OP here is a little misleading. Have they really kept the numerical value, and just changed the currency it relates to, or have prices changes to match or differ?
Trying to set the &CC parameter just redirects me to the AU main page at the moment.

They're converting US prices to European ones by changing the dollar sign to an euro one i.e. 10$ -> 10€, so everything just got a 50% price boost if you happen to live there. They don't even have the excuse that they'd be undercutting retail sales otherwise - I could buy TF for the equivalent of 20 USD in local brick-and-mortar stores, but have to pay 30 for it on Steam. Screw that.
That must sting. Retail is getting cheaper here as well, and for the last year, I've considered returning to it.
Got around to looking at the steam forums as well, a lot of angry/upset people, and not just those in Europe.
I typically buy retail anyway.. but given where I am, I've got no room to complain!
but seriously, I see better sales retail than through steam half the time. the other half it's games I normally wouldn't play unless they were $2.50 and they were.
This is a copy from my message on the steam forums. For me, it's actually a surprise that it's coming from valve. Well....some things change, and reputation built on great games and nice attitude it's lost on money-hunger decisions like this.. See ya Steam.
"It's also the time for me to leave.I had some discussions last days with people, and i said a lot of times "this is a beta bug, Valve won't screw us over" Well,Valve joined the wagon, and showed Europe a big middle finger. Thanks a lot,i just hope people will realize that with this change Valve showed us that it is not the fairy princess of game producing companies, like people used to belive. Back to retail, it's been fun."

Plenty of companies are doing the symbol switch. Apples iPhone is also launched here a 500-600 euros. Hence I will never ever buy it.
Now steam decided to do the old switch trick, guess what, I'll not be buying anything there as long as they keep it in place. I bet if the dollar was stronger than the euro they would have calculated the exchange rate far more eagerly.
now maybe my reading comprehension isnt up to scratch but i dont think....
Products on Steam are now priced using local currency in the United Kingdom (Pounds Sterling), and Europe (Euros). All other countries remain in United States Dollars.
says anything about 1usd = 1euro, at all.

Garrys mod was prices 9.99 dollars, now it's conveniently price 9.99 euros

Well the change was that customers in all european countries are now forced to pay in Euro's instead of USD's and in many/most cases they just switched the $ to €. Funny thing is that change seem to include ALL european countries, including those that are not euro or EU members.
Basically it's same thing if gog.com suddenly would price games 5.99/9.99€ instead of 5.99/9.99$ in europe.
