keeveek: Btw. OP is talking about GOG' using wisdom because clearly he forgotten about GOG's prank when the whole site disappeared and they announced they are closing gog for good :P

Grombart: It seems that still not everyone has learned to make personal backups of games they've bought, or else it doesn't really matter if you use Steam or GOG or whatever service there is.

The only way to fully embrace the glory of DRM-freeness is to BACKUP YOUR GAMES LOCALLY! ;)

GOG just thought that gamers KNEW this when they took the site offline. They clearly overestimated the average gamer, it seems... :P
Well, sorta.

Lifespan of single CD or DVD is 20 years maximum. I truly hope that steam will last longer :P (which would be uncommon in computer era, but i'm just hopin that GOG and steam will last longer than any DVD)

Robbeasy: I'm going to look a bit silly here, but I've just made a tit of myself in Mafia 9 so its no worries.....

How do I put Steam into offline mode??
avatar
overread: Top left corner of Steam is the Steam menu button - click it and its the second option down.
Thanks, +1 internets to you

El_Caz: Sometimes, for whatever reason, you can't even start Steam (be it due to a bug or a problem on my side). It really sucks, because you can't even set it to offline mode then.

I wonder if they're preparing for their Christmas sale already?
If my Internet bandwidth is capped I can rarely start steam so maybe you are having the same issue

No cap on my internet, but when this happens it doesn't last long and I figure it's a hiccup somewhere. It's not really a recurring issue.
Anyone know how much time it generally takes for support to answer tickets ?

Aningan: Anyone know how much time it generally takes for support to answer tickets ?
From what I gather, it varies wildly, based on the complexity of your request and total worth of your account. Also, account ownership issues (resetting passwords etc.) seem to have priority. All in all, a matter of several days, hard to say how many.

They just answered. Close to 24 hours. Not bad.
Of course, their answer suck, but they were fast with it. Now I need to contact Paypal to see their side of the story. Awesome... I play the role of the ping pong ball it seems. And as I gather I can kiss my Tales of Monkey Island purchase goodbye.

I once played the role of Ping Pong Ball between EA and Punkbuster for 3 weeks after my Battlefield 2142 account got banned for no bloody reason... It resulted in EA telling me never to email there support again :P

No Grombart, gog thought that the wishes of the investora that enabled the DOD deal were more important than their customers.
