He is one blatant obvious troll. He insults me first, then claims I'm the one insulting him.
Quote:
You're either retarded or you can't read properly.
So fuck off.
He later said that "I'm not forcing anyone to use Steam, neither i am saying that everyone should use Steam" so it doesn't sound like he thinks it's good on a universal level to me,
His beef just that he's sick of bitching about steam here because it's old and posting about it here isn't going to do anything about it.
And your tone towards him was snotty in the first place, what with your condescending " now if you're having problems with that, then I suggest you quit gaming for good" and your ridiculous " we don't care if you like it and we really couldn't care less if steam is your religion" comment

I'm being snotty? He was the one being rude to jamyskis first. Quote:Where did you take that dumb assumption from?
I would have been more polite, if I didn't feel it was wasted on him. He was the one who hurled insults like "You are retarded." and "Fuck off!"
Of course I know posting here won't change anything about Steam. But correct me if I'm wrong, this is a forum, not a political conference where world leaders are gathered. Don't I have the right to express my opinion on a forum. I'm sorry if this topic isn't the first of its kind. But I didn't make it to piss people off. I just made it to express my concerns of forced Steam as a drm, and hope to see how many people agree.

I won't bother you with an extensive critique about Steam. If you have used the software before, you know its bugs, misconceptions and broken mechanisms. Its permanent factual beta status, the complete lack of vision and the hostile support do cause a lot of anger within me. Let's just leave it at that.

I don't think I've ever seen one here. Many however, will tolerate it for the right game or the right price. They probably don't appreciate DRM being positioned as an ethical question.
It wasn't that long ago that the warez scene was the only significant source of DRM-free games. It's likely that any DRM-free only gamer has had to purge their library. Personally, I can't bring myself to do that. I love games* too much.
*Physical game media like boxes, manuals, and discs can rot in hell however. ;)

I have been using steam since day one. Never had any problems with it, and it is slowly improving. Offline mode was a bit buggy, now it works very nicely. You can now chose install path and location, which is another thing was a bit annoying before.
For me, as a service, Steam works great. I am finding myself more and more buying a game on steam when I have the option between to do so or not. Auto-patching works like a charm. Workshop integration was a stroke of genius. The actual DRM is very non-intrusive (non-existing in some cases...). I contacted support once for a query, and I had a quick and good response.
I have exchanged computers 3 times since I got my Steam account, and it makes moving my games library a breeze. You can do al the things manually, but it makes it a hassle, less convenient and requires me sitting there and doing it. When I move games with steam, I could set it up do download the games when I went to work in the morning, and when I came back home they where there - fully patched and ready to play.
All things considering, even though with the risk of Steam going out of business (for what ever reason), for me the convenience of using it outweighs the risks. I will rather play my games right now and get the enjoyment out of them, rather then not to and worry about something which may or may not happen. (and if Steam gets bust, there are always ways to unlock the games.... in a process much like old fashion patching). If steam had more draconian DRM, or where less convenient, then I would not feel this way. (which is why I did not buy Settlers 7 or From Dust until they made it work offline also, for example)
In the future steam discussions, I will just refer to this post, I am done now.
(Deal with it!)

Well, there are some here would agree. I myself refrain from buying on Steam unless I have no choice. Normally if I can get a game off retail, GoG, Gamersgate and Greenmangaming I'll get it from those sources even for the Steam compulsory games. The only time I get from Steam is during the massive sales for the games I don't really care about.
