keeveek: Slim chances, but maybe you may ask them for a steam key?
I've been reading the forums, no details yet.

Or another kind of compensation, yeah. Will definitely write them an email about how I feel as a customer now.
Regional pricing for productivity software is going to be fun.

rwkay said that people who buy on the site will get a way to claim a Steam key soon.

Great, either way the situation's gonna be that I've paid 100€ for software that I should have paid 72€ for and which is available for $72 to non-European users. It still sucks. Let's hope that my skill which I got from using the GM for six years will result in some amazing game that will make me so rich that I won't care about the 30€ anymore. :P

Wonder how some of those programs will work with Steams 75% off sales.

Nah, it's $90 here with the 10% discount promotion.

Where did you pay 100 euros though? On their site? I didn't think they'd have a pricing mismatch on their site. :/
Brilliant move.

An all purpose PC digital platform.

I wonder if they'll eventually start offering corporate discounts?

i heard steam emails the company and asks them if they want to participate in the sale, and if the company wants to, they go ahead and discount their software.

Following up on this, when Orion Dino Beatdown went on sale for a daily sale coinciding with a new patch release, the developer was pretty furiously posting about it on the Steam forums while simultaneously emailing Valve about how the sale was NOT supposed to be the daily deal and how it was meant to be a smaller sale to commemorate the patch.

I know that's not the best example given the guy's reputation, but...

When it comes down to it, I think it's primarily up to the company publishing the game, be it the developer or a publishing company. I say that based on rumors that the Baseball Mogul guys didn't get paid during the time they were being published by another company on Steam.

This is indeed true. It's why Amalur never got a discount in the summer sale -- as the people who needed to give permission were no longer around.

amok: Steam is branching out a bit, and have started to selling more software then games:

http://store.steampowered.com/software

So far they are offering

GameMaker: Studio
3D-Coat
ArtRage Studio Pro
3DMark Vantage
3DMark 11
CameraBag 2

If you get Workshop integration I can see how this can work. Now we need Adobe on there and 90% Steam sales.
Lol, better yet, Paint shop pro. The funny thing is it would still cost over $150 @ 90% off. I think this is a dangerous trend, let the software companies continue to distribute the old fashioned way, Boxes. Digital distribution for this type of media is a really bad idea. I think Steam should just focus on Games, not actual software.

Valve wants to make steam a necessity. in a way its great idea for them. make steam the go to place for all your gaming needs whether it is playing them or simply making a new game.

I know I get emails from some software sellers with really regular sales like that, it's simply not transparent at all to know about them without being on their mailing list. So yeah, I'm kinda looking forward to seeing cheap sales on Software on Steam (hopefully).

I can imagine picking up some software along the way if the sales are good enough.
