taczillabr: For me yes, it was $4.99 since the first day, I don't know if it was in the U.S. too. This game uses GFWL.
I can't say which regions specifically, but it did get a price drop at the start of this set of daily deals. But I think that the USD price for most regions was already $4.99 so it's likely the price drop was either UK and/or EU only.
As for this whole 24 hour further price cuts on already discounted titles, it's a shitty move really. But as long as you buy a game when it's at a price point you're happy with paying, why get upset if it goes even cheaper?
Personally, I'd rather buy the games when they are priced at an acceptable price point than keep waiting to see if they get a further reduction. After all, that way, I actually get to play the game instead of that annoying waiting game price gamble.
Too bad Valve have all those fanboys though, as if they didn't, they might just find that such sales practices drive away pissed off customers in the long run.

I can't blame a retailer for price drops, even if the discounts are unexpected. If I believe a game to be worth $10, and purchase it, why am I entitled to it at a lower price, should the retailer reduce the asking price of the item at some point following my purchase? I can't ask Intel to buy back my shares at their peak lifetime value, can I?
I agree with your point regarding satisfaction at the time of purchase. The sense of entitlement that is held by so many thoroughout the world is poisonous. There are many reasons to criticize Valve, but these sales tactics do not constitute a significant sin against consumers.

Might grab Hearts of Iron and Dead Space. However, despite the fact that I used to play some hex-based board games with my brothers about fifteen or so years ago, Hearts of Iron looks a bit daunting in terms of layers of strategy. Great price nonetheless.

I suggest anyone who hasn't played Dead Space get it now. Regardless of how you feel the team is handling Dante's Inferno, this is one amazing game that treads fresh ground in horror gaming.

Only reason I'm not jumping on it is that I'm still hoping FO3 gets reduced thus satisfying my FPS needs.

Thanks, I remember hearing about this game when it came out about a year ago and thinking it sounded pretty cool, but I seldom hear people mention it. For the current steam price (just over $10) I'm seriously considering it.

bansama: that and they have the "I want my games only on Steam" fanboy mentality working in their favor.
melchiz: I bet these are the same people who invest all of their money into a single big-name stock like GE or Apple. No, but it's a bit like continuing to buy Apple products if you're comfortable with iTunes, Mac OS, your iPhone, and so forth. As much as I've grown to dislike Valve and Steam, I continue to buy from them when possible for the simple reason that no one else has made a serious attempt to connect their communities across games so that I can see what you're playing, invite you to what I'm playing, see what you just bought, start a public or private group with event schedules, or anything like this. It's not the Valve exclusives that are keeping people focused on Steam.
An alternative to Steam also shouldn't just do what Steam already does. It should offer things we haven't seen before. If Steam had done what Impulse is doing now, both programs would have nothing to offer that GameSpy Arcade didn't provide 8 years ago.
It looks like Xfire *may* be headed in the right direction, but they've stumbled out the gate with their store in what amounted to an unannounced Dec. 21 launch, with nothing unique to offer and the client still a mostly uncustomizable maze of useless features, which still relies way too much on your browser.

Navagon: If you want an FPS, get Borderlands. It has Claptraps in it. Oh and millions of guns. Those too. I had a friend gift it to me... okay game but ultimately a bit disappointed in it.

I'm sure I've already said this, but Indigo Prophecy for $3.39 is an amazing deal, even if the ending is less than stellar. It'll show you why people are so worked up over the coming of Heavy Rain.
