Story BUMP
Here are my thoughts (all games available on GOG):

To the Moon - No voice acting, no fancy graphics, no cinematics, just a brilliant tale about a dying man with a dying wish: to go to the moon before he departs. You'll be amazed (sometimes teary eyed) when you discover how that wish will be granted.

Quest for Glory series - The making of a Hero. An amazing tale (in 5 acts) telling the adventures of the newest graduate from the Famous Adventurer's Correspondence School until he becomes the Hero of the 5 different lands of the World. If To the Moon made you cry, these will make you laugh and really test your endurance for puns.

Gabriel Knight - A mature game, with a mature setting and a mature storyline. Your brain will melt at some puzzles (some devilish, but fair puzzles), but let's say you have no idea at how deep the rabbit's hole goes when you start to discover the true story of the protagonist.
1) Mass Effect Series (I know someone already recommended it, but it's just that good!).

Thanks for the giveaway :)
I'd suggest Eador (either version: I believe Masters of the Broken World has been patched to a playable state at this point, but I only have Genesis myself). While there is little - or no, to this extent - direct story told to you, your story emerges from the actions you take and the decisions you make. And, pleasantly, there are positive consequences if you make 'good' decisions rather than act selfishly.

I'd rather not reveal everything about the game (and haven't finished it myself yet, either), so I'll just advise you to be yourself if you play it. Don't try, for instance, to roleplay an evil despotic overlord who wants to kill everything (unless, I guess, that's what you're actually like *backs away*).

Oh, and play the campaign, as that's the part with the story.
My suggestions:

1. Grim Fandango
2. Outcast
3. Omikron
My suggestions:

Back to the Future: The Game- If you love Back to the Future, then this is the game for you. Marty And Doc are back, and have gotten into more Time Travel Trouble. It's a story packed with witty humor, magnificent adventure, and that kickass theme song. The characters are as good as ever, with magnificent voice acting , and a script that matches the original trilogies Quality. So. hop in, fasten you seat belts, accelerate to 88 miles per hour, and get ready to go back in time.

Cthulhu Saves The World- The title of the game itself tells what the game is about. And, seriously, is there any better story than FREAKING CTHULHU SAVING THE WORLD. The script is witty, the characters charming, and in a whole, its a game that is work of art that needs to be seen to believe.

Strong Bads Cool Game For Attractive People- The homestar runner gang is all here, with hilarious stories and jokes that are guarenteed to make you smile with delight. With a ton of in jokes in the story (You still can't get ye flask), it is definitely a must buy.

I must admit that this topic exceeded my expectations. People posted plenty of great suggestions and it was really hard to choose one. I decided to try Anachronox suggested by Tranquil.Suit. I've already heard about this game, but I never tried it.

Thanks everyone for participating and for all suggestions.
Congratulations to Tranquil.Suit and thanks to Aver for this giveaway. A lot of good games listed indeed.
Congrats to the winner (don't really mean it, just trying to be polite) ...

Oh, this one is easy. Gabriel Knight 1 and 2 and To The Moon. These are practically a must for anyone interested in story-driven games. They're cheap too!
Thanks for the interesting thread, Aver, and for the giveaway. Congratulations to the winner.
