DarrkPhoenix: It was probably due to the oils in the peanut butter being a better match in terms of polarity to the adhesive in what you were trying to get off. Isopropanol is also a pretty mediocre solvent for dissolving solids, although this is part of why it's often used for cleaning (afterall, you wouldn't want it to dissolve the surface on whatever you're trying to clean).
