hercufles: Just curious, have you ever had a moment where you make a very dumb gaming mistake.
Last time I made one in wing commander where i did a mission perfectly killed a destroyer and killed a lot of kitties but accidantly hit the load button and loaded the previous mission and have to do it all over again.

dallimar: Had a somewhat similar problem.... After a really tough mission in WC (that I'd played 8-9 times and FINALLY won), I forgot to request permission to land . . . . ran head long into the Tiger's Claw . . . . and boom....
Very familiar, I did ask permission but still crashed in it because i aproached it from the wrong angle.
I never use (not healing) potions in RPGs (BG/IWD/Witcher). I save them for the rainy days and finish the game without it.

I have that too waiting for the moment that i really need it.I got that too withg items that are really powerful but only can be used once.
Anything that has a quicksave function and is turn based.

Biggest one was Jagged Alliance. Halfway through the game, and like always I rely on Quicksave as my ONLY means of saving, a bad habit I can't shake. Quicksaved before an attack without realizing an enemy had me lined up for an instant kill shot every time.
yeah i have done stupid things like kill a boss guy then went and hit quickload instead of quicksave and then swore for 5 mins afterwards.
I do many stupid things in Baldur's Gate, like losing some sub-quest item because I had no idea it would become useful later on, at least getting some extra experience points if I give it to someone else much later in the game. But in a way I feel that is stupidity of the game, it should be more apparent which items are quest items so that you don't get rid of them to clear some room in your inventory.

I wonder where I put or sold that dagger...?

Magnitus: In X2 (space flying game kinda like Privateer, but way better), at some point, you are supposed to escort an NPC somewhere.
I remember in X Beyond the Frontier (ie the first X game) and my first attempts to landing at a space station.

Well first the darn thing kept spinning - so I spent ages trying to spin my ship at just the right speed so I didn't hit the edges of the landing slot. However it seemed each time I would either hit an edge as I flew inside the opening or I'd hit the blast doors which never seemed to open or do anything.

It wasn't till much later that I spotted the little green speed bar that appeared during landing to show the fasted speed I was allowed to land at -- suffice to say landing got a lot easier once I showed the ship down ;)

Oh and for a Baldur's Gate II one - first time playing I found out two things:
1) Fireball is NOT a close combat safe weapon (it was actually a long while before I dared to use it again and mastered the art of long range fireball use)

2) Trying to grab every jacket and bit of loot in a DnD game is worthless unless its at least got a +1 by it or a really unique name and long history description. Common loot is junk and sells for pennies!"!

Went into STALKER almost straight from Fallout New Vegas, tried to play the same way.
...yeah.

Also, don't map, like, quicksave F5, quickload F6, people. Separate them buggers!

Yeah, landing was a pain. The thing that always struck me as funny when landing is that the is only one entry or exit point to a base and sometimes, you can get the green to enter while another ship gets the green to leave or vice versa.

I mean, you'd think they'd either have done 2 ways (one to enter, one to leave) or that at least, the system would be sophisticated enough not to give a ship permission to enter while another ship has permission to leave.

Overall, a very engrossing game, but that particular part was a remainder that the space stations in X2 were probably designed by an artist and not an engineer :P.

Fenixp: Oh yes, load or quick load buttons are classic. My stupid game mistake was when I chose to play mage against my wife's barbarian in Heroes of Might and Magic 5.
Worse than QuickSaving and QuickLoading is when you need to press F12 (or take a Screenshot) and hit the Power button. Yeah... I did that a lot. Then I bought a new keyboard with no Power/Sleep/Wake buttons.

Quicksaving less than 1sec before dying is first on my list.

I usually forget to save as well. Just to find out I need to replay 30-45 minutes because of that.

AFnord: I do that all the time...
I stand for each of your words. I always thought that in my case because I am a strategy gamer at heart, and apply the same rules of not to spend any resources unnecessarily to other genres.

I remember I memorized the ammunition for each magazine clip / ammo box for every weapon in games like Unreal and The Wheel of Time, so when I saw one on the ground could say, "umm, that clip provide me with 12 bullets, but the gun is only 10 of the maximum, so I wasted 2. Not yet." (same for bandages / first aid kits).

Currently I try to play more relaxed (more fun!) but it remains something of an obsession...

Oh, yea, did that few days ago while playing STALKER. Set me back 30 minutes. :/
Is stalker any good? I had it free with my new pc.
