so, just yesterday I've seen the movie sucker punch, and I must say it's awesome!

of course many people will not like it, but that's just because they overthink and have seen too many movies... (but I've seen most of the "influences" myself and I'm still thrilled! :o)

what do you think?
I don't know if you knew about it, but there's already a discussion about the film.
(If you did and made a separate thread on purpose, please disregard this post.)

I'm sorry, I did a search in the forum and no "sucker punch" threads came, so that's why... I'll delete it.

EDIT: well, if I learn how somehow...

It's OK, the forum search isn't exactly the best I've seen (for example, it lists threads with titles exactly what you're searching for on the last page), and the last post in the other one is almost half a month old anyway.
It’s an eye candy action movie that seemed like it wanted to be something a bit more than that but didn’t really make it.

It was enjoyable, it was entertaining. It was alright, maybe even good but it wasn’t great. I resent the notion of over thinking something; under thinking something presents a much greater danger with media. You are basically telling people to shut up and stop having standards. Even if ignored it doesn’t mean the issues are gone, it just leaves them unaddressed. Nothing is learned and the mistakes continue.

This was a character driven film and its characters were lacking. Everything it presented us with was underdeveloped and when something is underdeveloped it means the audience doesn’t care as much about the people and situations in the movie as they should or are intended to.

The action, visuals, acting, cinematography, costume and sound track where great some of it superb. It tried at having substance to but it fell short and it’s a damn shame.

I liked this movie, I really did, I enjoyed it far more than I was expecting and if anyone is on the fence about watching this they should just go ahead and do it.
I couldn't help but feel like watching "Unreal Tournament : The Movie". There's a ridiculously high amount of fast-paced action, chicks with guns, cyberpunk samourais, a train assault map... and it's basically a technological demo with a gam... well, movie, tacked on. And, well, the scenario is utterly forgettable.

And like UT, it's better when experienced with a few friends and a brain in 'off' mode.
and that's the thing, actually...

when I read about characters not being well drawn, story being "simple" at least, all the stolen ideas and how it was generally shallow, I must say I agree... I was a little bit disappointed myself.

but then again, I read about how someone totally enjoyed it, was thrilled by the action scenes, loved the composition of music and picture (and the look of those girls, who were just yummy! [I'm so tempted to buy Babydoll as an 18'' action figure, but 250 USD is just crazy!]), all I can say is, again, I agree...

this movie made me so ambivalent (*doing the Kryten's mad grin) that I can't stop thinking about it... and I'm definitely going to buy a DVD (with the director's cut, that is), and there are not so many movies I want to see more than once.

that being said, I think I love the movie... (there are things I hate about it, but still...)
I was honestly surprised by the film, quite impressive overall. Went in expecting easy watching, relatively mindless action flick... It turned out with a good story, layered atmosphere, and a genuinely surprising classification, very dark subject matter for a 12a IMO. For me the action scenes did seem a lil bolted on and unnecessary in places, but well made none the less with a heavy anime influence and a lot of stylised cgi. Gorgeous cast, which sorta goes without saying :P the evanesance esque music seemed to fit pretty well. So yeah not too bad really.

Just a side note, it did remind me of sanitarium a bit because of the reality jumps and the quasi-schizophrenic nature of the story. Anyone else pick up on that?

well, to be honest, I didn't... but that's just because there was so little of the actual asylum in the movie ;o) (please fix that director's cut! please fix that director's cut! :D
