Here (on the Software Pyramide, which someone else mentioned) you can actually pick up a bundle of the first 21 Moorhuhn games made for €5, which is actually a fecking good deal. The Schatzjäger games are worth it alone, Der Fluch des Gobes and Der Schatz des Pharaoh aren't bad either, just a bit easy. And I admit to enjoying Moorhuhn Kart 2 and 3 (1/XXL was a turd though).

Oh, and all this talk of Moorhuhn reminds me of SVEN!!!! (yes, the picture relates to the game)

BranjoHello: Where's the proof, sire?!
I don't have any, all I could do would be pointing you towards that guy but that would be quite excessive just to confirm a little random fact somewhere on the internet. :P I can prove a far more outrageous fact, though - that two of the people in charge of Phenomedia back then were sentenced to several years in prison for fraud (they lied to their investors about the money the company made).

I think next to that one it doesn't seem so outrageous anymore that someone involved considered it weird or wrong that they were making money by selling a free game. :P

Haha, yeah, same thing here. Man... both these games were so stupid...

Does anyone remember the Waldmeister Sause games? Those were more fun than the Moorhun games IMO.

I remember getting it with a copy of Bravo Screenfun at one point (don't ask, it was a matter of taking the game out and chucking the magazine) and the first thing that came to my mind was that it was a shameless Moorhuhn knockoff. Or was it ComputerBild Spiele? Can't remember, both magazines are a joke.

It was certainly more varied than Moorhuhn though.

(Speaking of Bravo Screenfun - anyone notice how their circulation figures just nosedived as soon as they stopped putting a free game on the cover?)

F4LL0UT: Also the first two games (I lost track after that) were and still are available for free on the internet and I actually heard one of the Phenomedia AG people say that he still can't believe that people actually paid for boxed versions of a free game.

He is right, I remeber that as well.

Yep, i bought the Bravo Screenfun just for the games on the CD too. I still have a stack of those CDs including a few nice games like Aquanox, Technomage, Arx Fatalis etc. :)
These games weren't bad, just casual and good for a 5 minute break on an office desk. If Moorhuhn comes to GOG, will they provide the Moorhuhn song as bonus? ;)

Well, what gaming magazine isn't nosediving these days in Germany?

Here's a download for one of the games (I think the first one:

Why stop at simply rereleasing the old games? Why not "reboot the franchise" while you're at it? Turn it into something dark and gritty, while making it more accessible for a modern audience.

I remember Moorhuhn, everyone was going crazy about it, especially when Moorhuhn 2 got released. Then as suddenly as it came it disappeared again and no one really cared when Moorhuhn 3 got released. There was nothing wrong with the games, they were simple and fun to kill some time, but ultimately there just wasn't much to them. After a while you reached a point where you knew all the secrets and tricks and your highscore could only improve by memorizing the level and mim-maxing the optimum route. Which is stupid and boring. What made it successful to begin with, i.e. being simple and for free, eventually killed it as well.
Anyone remember the Deer Avenger series?

Mmm that's a very nice price. I must admit that I play only shooter series and never the other ones. The only issue with this great deal its gonna cost me more the shipping than the games itself :P
I remember saw this Sven, although didn't play it... wait? You need to f*ck sheeps? LOL!

Indeed. Its weird that I feel nostalgic for such simply game, perhaps was a saturation of heavy games and I unconsciously look for a break.

The thing is there is a buy link here:
http://www.moorhuhn.com/games_mh_1.php?menu=spiele&header=1999
...that leads nowhere.
And here is a valid buy link to 10 Year Anniversary pack that includes first three games:
http://astore.amazon.de/phenomediaag-21/detail/B002G1I968

So, that kind of blurs that freeware status.
