As our catalog gets bigger and better every week, it's easy to lose track of some of the awesome games that we have to offer. We've been running one day "Gaming Gem" promos for a while now to highlight some classic titles that don't get the love of some of our best-known blockbusters like Baldur's Gate or Duke Nukem 3D. To celebrate summer, for the next two weeks until July 25th, we're going to run a Gaming Gem promo every day, so you can rediscover these lesser-known classics! Grab that plastic toy shovel and dig out gem after gem over the next 18 days. We think every game we're going to be offering on our Summer GOG.com Gem Extravaganza will be an excellent title, and we hope you give them all a try.
Your family is dead, a piece of “collateral damage” in Rome’s continual war against the Gauls. This sounds like the set up for an awesome series of platformers where you be granted special powers from the gods of battle (gods of war, you could say) and wield, say, a pair of swords that are chained to your wrists while you stalk around an ancient civilization, killing everything in sight.
But that’s not this game.
This game is an innovative RTS that dares to do things differently. There are two modes to this game: the strategic and the adventure. In adventure mode, you are Larax, a man who’s sworn vengeance against the Gauls for their murder of his family, and you control an ever-increasing army as you raid across the gorgeous Gallic countryside, capturing buildings, conquering territory, and generally making those pesky barbarians regret the day they ever made you angry.
In strategic mode, play as the Romans or the Gauls on a strategic map where tactical and strategic must be combined for you to achieve victory.
With several innovative features, such as streamlined resource management and buildings that can neither be built or destroyed, but only captured, Celtic Kings: Rage of War was an innovative title that was well acclaimed by the press upon its release, and it’s one of those gems that you should pick up if you’re a fan of the genre. It’s available today only for $2.39, and we’ll have another great hidden gem available for you tomorrow, so stop back in!
