Day one of the e-cig has been a moderate success. I just ordered "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking" by Allen Carr based on a few ex-smoking friends' recommendations.

Leucius: So in an effort to cut down on cost and eventually give up smoking entirely, I'm switching to e-cigs today with the occasional regular cigarette.
I'm hopeful that it works, I know my lung stash is starting to pay the price from years of smoking. Wish me luck!
Any tips from other former smokers besides the usual "Always have hard candy" etc? I know not to be around cigarettes if I can help it, and I am trying to tell myself that I'm stronger than the nicotine, but damn this addiction is fierce.
Like donsanderson said, you if you want to truly quit, you will. You have to do it for yourself and no-one else I'm hopeful that it works, I know my lung stash is starting to pay the price from years of smoking. Wish me luck!

I smoked for quite a few years and gave up one day. Took it up again two years later (had an ex that smoked) but gave it up again after that and haven't smoked since then (4 years now)
The addiction is more habitual than anything IMHO. Examples being: walk outside, light up. Finish a movie, go light up. Tea break, light up. Get out of the car, light up, etc. etc. You have to remove each option to light up, one at a time
~ Don't make excuses why you smoke nor for any "failures" you might have trying to quit. If you give in, take it in your stride and try again
~ You have to take yourself away from other smokers; they'll only want to lure you back/the temptation is always there around them
~ Whenever you get the urge to have a smoke, replace it with something else like a cup of coffee or water, exercise, or something else
You can do it. I have complete faith in you

Actually, any computer game that requires using both hands will cut down on my smoking. Playing Tetris. :P
I still light them but forget about them and they burn out in the ashtray.
Expensive but healthier. :)
