I got System Shock 2 used from EB a few years back, but I actually didn't get around to playing it until after I had played Bioshock. After I finished it, I looked upon Bioshock much less kindly.
I own the original SS2 cd and case and i would have to agree that it does remove some of the rose tinting on the old glasses when looking at bioshock.
Personally i felt bioshock suffers from it's user friendliness. While System shock 2 had the ability to become ridiculously easy with the right modifications and augmentations the fact is you had to cheat to get them.
(My favourite combination being the psyoinic recharge ability and heavily modded laser rifles which you got about 3 or more of in the game)
Bioshock doesn't present the non-cheater with any really difficult choice apart from wether or not to be an evil monster and that's debatable with the fact you don't have a choice in wether you want to inject that first biostim.
In essence it turns what might be a harrowing game atmosphere presented by constant fear of dying into a run and gun fest as the quickest way through is simply to fire up litterally and keep blasting for those blue injectibles.
As one of my friends said to me to which will follow my reply 'are you just burning everyone, you're a monstor', "is there anything else i'm suppose to do?"

Gundato: Wasn't aware SS1 worked in DOSBox. Think last time I checked it didn't.

System Shock 1 works absolutely flawlessly in DosBox, in both it's Floppy and enhanced CD forms.
I played through it for about the 6th time a few months back.
Yeah it's a shame, but i've never played system shock 1. Still gotta hang out for the addit;'s in the hopefully near-term.
