tinyE: Am I the only one that thought ALL THREE Matrix movies where terrible? Mind you, I have no taste, but I can't be alone here.

AnimalMother117: The first one was okay, for some mindless action I felt, but the sequels were TERRIBLE I didn't even really like the first one that much. I know plenty of people who LOVE all of them and I just don't understand that, even if you love the first one how can you possibly like the other two? I can't even decide which one I think is worse.
It is very rare i will not love a good sci fi movie - loved all the Matrix, even loved all the Superman movies except the one with Richard Pryor..... it was ok up to the part where you see Superman dodging the missiles on the screen display I'm like WTF? (That i could not forgive). Or sci fi movies where the story relies too much on people being stupid as if bad things cannot happen anyway! Not so much sci fi, but 24 is a good example,,,, i mean you know, don't they ever run out of stupid people to be in charge????????

I think when they said power corrupts, they meant that it corrupts brain functionality!

I have even seen it happen many times myself.... Yesterday before the promotion he was a perfectly sane reasonable human being, now along with the injection of pride from the promotion, he has become a blubbering fool, how does he even manage to dress himself? And so begins the process of having to sacrifice good decisions at the altar of his pride, but can he manage to master the art of blaming others for all the things that go wrong as a result, in time to keep his job, just like all our other bosses have done?

mabrookes: I think he doesn't like the game, so it doesn't exist kind of how there was only one Matrix film for most people (I will die on my sword now and admit I actually liked the Matrix sequals)

If you don't mind me asking, what made the 1st one terrible to you? I found 2 and 3 unwatchable, but I found the first film quite good.

That's a tough question and unfortunately I have to take the bullet on this one because the two reasons are really the result of my own bias and can't be blamed on the movie itself.

First, Keanu Reeves has done some fun action movies and great comedies but I just can't take him seriously in Matrix. Everyone else plays their part beautifully but he just looks like an idiot delivering his lines; I suppose it doesn't help that everyone around him looks really good delivering theirs.

Second, and this is isn't the movie's fault, but the Matrix has always been presented to me as some sort of ground breaking 'modern day classic' and really all it is is just a another action movie with some clever camera work. I have nothing against action movies but these fucking people (of which my beloved brother is one) who consider it one of the greatest movies ever made just drive me nuts and (again unfairly to the film) make me despise it. When I hear someone start to name off the greatest Sci-Fi/Action movies of all time and they start with Blade-Runner, Alien, Star Wars, Matrix....WHAT!? NO! It doesn't belong with those others and it pisses me off it ever gets suggested in anyone's "best of list".

Randalator: The game you're referring to doesn't exist. And if it did, it would be a steaming pile of crap. Thank god it doesn't...

CoachWade: I am not interested in arguing with you, Randal, whatever your motivation may be for trying to irritate me. I like the Thief franchise. I may or may not like the fourth game, but I didn't ask for your opinion here. I started this thread PURELY to thank the GOG development team for putting my favorite game franchise on sale, not to start a discussion about the Matrix or for any other reason.

Randal wasn't arguing with you, he was using a figure of speech to indicate how much he loved the first Thiefs and how disappointed he was in the newest version. And so, he has hyperbolically and dramatically chosen to ignore that it exists and only focus on the original Thief games here on GOG.

I'm about 15 hours into the new one and haven't gotten a chance to play it for a few weeks. But so far, I've really liked it. It's a bit linear in places (and a lot linear in others) and guided, but it still has a lot of fun moments.

As for The Matrix, I worked at a cinema when The Matrix came out and I loved it. For those too young to remember, their ad campaign told you nothing about the movie. They would just keep asking the question, "What is the Matrix?" And when I saw the movie, it blew me away. I saw it somewhere around 14 times in the the theater (when it's free, it's spectacular! I even got free popcorn and Pepsi).

The sequels weren't as good, but I still enjoyed them. I felt like they should have taken the story in different directions, though. Nonetheless, I still liked them and I'm still not certain that Neo ever got out of the Matrix at all.

P.S. I almost forgot, the first Thief was Thief: The Dark Project. I think that's how it's differentiated from the fourth, which is just called "Thief."

I guess I was lucky that I never saw the latter 2 Matrix movies. I decided I would wait for them to come out on DVD and by the time they finally did I had totally forgotten about them and all the critical reviews calling them absolute shit were out.
So, I still have only seen the first Matrix movie and I loved it, but of course it could have been better with a decent actor instead of Keanu.

As for Thief, I have ALL three games, but have only played the first two, when they originally came out. Thief 3 is way down in my backlog to one day play.
