Got my father The Incredible Machine pack as part of his birthday present and he loves it.

Went straight through the first 50 levels of tutorial and the first 2 at easy.

However, you'll need to get more puzzle oriented games in your collection or I'll run out of games to buy him pretty quickly :P.
Good to know that. I always have soft spot for a father / mother or oldies who still love video games.

Well, my mother got into Mario Bros 1, Mario Bros 2 and Populous (really big on Populous) when I was a kid, but it was mostly because she wanted to take interest in what I was doing so not so much now :P.

My dad really likes puzzles and also adventure games (mostly for the humor... he finished Full Throttle) a little and that's pretty much it so far.

So yeah, I already got him Riven (he already played through Myst back when it was released), Uru, Gobliiins and the Incredible Machine Pack so I'm running out of options on GOG.

You might try to give him Sanitarium. It's a very mature adventure game. It's low on humor, but it's extremely interesting and thought-provoking.
out of options? so many adventures. and zork is nice, also puzzlewise.

they should get goblins 4 here, some might not like it as much as the previous ones but i think it was okay. but its probably from a different publisher.

Many adventure games are a good source of puzzles, in one form or another; and that one's a fine choice.

It's in my backlog, but I'll guess I should move it towards the top then ;).

Thanks for the tip. I got one of the games when they had a promo. I'll have to try it out.

Well, many puzzles in adventure games tend to be pretty obscure guess games.

Ex: In Simon the Sorcerer, many areas were hard to find out about (I had to look in the relevant part of the walkthrough to find out about those areas) and while it was pretty funny, at least 2-3 of the puzzles were obscure enough that they didn't give me much satisfaction (ie, "oh, that's clever") when I figured them out.

I doubt he would have appreciated that.

Recently, he played Broken Sword 1 a bit and had a similar opinion of the game.

Not that he hates it, but these are hurdles he has to get over to derive enjoyment from a game and he's not willing to invest as much into his gaming as gamers of our generation are so games that he plays can't have too much of that stuff.

I think he prefers games where the puzzles have well defined parameters like in the Incredible Machine where you have a clear goal and the behavior of all the parts you have to use are well explained. GOG doesn't have too many games like that in their catalog.

Ah, and Uru gave him vertigo ><.

Been at mine a bit under 2 years so far. I certainly hope that won't be my story.
