42 is not only the meaning of life (for those who know…)
It also happens to be the number representing how many years ago (to the day) the mankind achieved something great… :)
You talking about that whole mooning business they did with the rockets and the people?

I believe he is talking about the day after John Fairfax finished his trip and became the first person to row across an ocean by themselves.
Yes it was great... and difficult. Never did manage to finish the game...

That does sound more reasonable. Thanks for clearing that up.

I'm assuming it's the OP's birthday. Happy birthday old fart :P
42 is the number of roads that a man must walk down.
If by something great you mean Led Zeppelin releasing their first album, then I definitely agree with you ;D
Sigh...

42... the meaning of life according to Hitchhikers Guide to Galaxy…
42… years ago to the day the man landed on the moon…

Not the meaning of life.
Not not not not not not not not not not not not (rants for a while) not the meaning of life!

It was the answer to the ultimate question of life the universe and everything, which Earth was created as a giant supercomputer to determine what that question was.

You could say it was “the meaning of life…” figuratively speaking :)

But that claims knowledge to what the question was.
The meaning of human life (and all other life on Earth), was actually to determine what the ultimate question was, a question to which the answer was 42. >.>
I actually figured out the question to the answer '42', and Douglas Adams confirmed it. I tried to update the Wikipedia topic for '42', but they wouldn't let me.

Which, knowing his sense of humor, was probably something just about as nonsensical.
