Unsurprisingly dumbed down complete with highlighted objects, one-button insta/no targeting takedowns, mini cutscenes, regenerating health (this was actually an augmentation in the first game), etc. etc. If people really can't tell how this is a steady decline in gaming and dismiss it as elitism then there is no point in arguing the issue. I think it speaks for itself and you'd have to be intentionally obtuse to claim otherwise.

That said, it will still be better than linear corridor shooters like Deadspace 2 and hopefully two or three times longer. I will eventually pick it up on sale but there is no way I'm paying full price for it.

But the aug did regenerate your health ALL the time, it required power to do so;here, it would appear that the health regen is a part of the game, like it or not.

Oh I know. Was just using that point to underscore that in the first game it was an ability that had a trade-off (power usage) and... actually had an initial trade-off in that it was one of two options for that particular augmentation (the other being anti-radiation/chemical or something). Perma-health regen is just standard console design and unfortunately it is now carrying over to the PC. Of course people shrug that off as 'convenience' just like one could also shrug off one-button-cutscene take downs as 'convenience' and then before you know it you've convenience'ed your way out of a challenging/engaging experience.

Nice, look at the way the light reflects off the walls!! Looks like a stealth portion of the game, really exciting.
That trailer is such a disappointment. DE3 is looks like it plays like Splinter Cell cross Daikatana (Romero will be proud)

Kurina: Went from fairly hyped to eh, probably wait for some reviews.

The highlighting bugs the heck out of me, and for some reason, the paths seem much more forced. In the first game, it felt as though you could improvise from start to finish, but not getting that vibe as much here. Then again, it is just the first level which may be purposely designed this way to teach newcomers.

Either way, less impressed than I originally was, but holding off judgment till more is shown or talked about. Seems highlighting is here to stay though.
Holy crap... Like I said after I seen it was going to be on the Xbox I had little hope. That video just showed what I fear. completely dumbed down console play.
I had pre ordered tha augmantation version for the pc from amazon. I hope to god the game plays at least 1/2 as good as the original although i am not pnning my exspectations up as already got burned playing Drago Age 2 and getting pissed at the consolisation of the game ninja spawns and the same bleeding dungeons or rooms.

This will probably be the last roll of the dice for me buying a AAA game if its a stupid port i will not buy any games that are cross platform releases and will only buy pc exclusives.
Aside from the melee take downs, this looks to me to be basically the same as the original Deus. Only thing that is difficult to judge is the overall mood/atmosphere of the game.

The original was basically an FPS with RPG elements. Stealth was good, and it was definitely helpful in situations but I at least spent 50% of the time taking out baddies. I personally like cover stealth better than an artificial stealth model where your hiding ability is changed by the darkness level, plus the level seems fairly well lit anyway.

All the early reviews it seems like the game is very unforgiving and getting close enough to melee every opponent isn't always as easy at it might seem. The gameplay footage shown so far isn't really enough to tell either way whether this game is good or not, but I feel like you guys are all freaking out about nothing.
Gamebanshee's preview of DXHR sounds optimistic, and many of their editors, including Brother None, seem to have positive reactions towards it, so I'm going to continue to hold my breath again.

I dont think anybody is "freaking out". more disappointed in a dumbed down console game in stead of a PC game.

I guess I don't see the dumbing down that everyone is yelling about on that vid. You can use stealth to approach an enemy or you can take them down up close with a massive blade to the back. I think that's fairly realistic: if you go hand to hand on a enhancement robotic soldier you're probably dead within seconds. If you can be sneaky enough to get that close, why can't you do what is essentially a backstab (in RPG terms)?

From what I see:
You can fight
You can hide/backstab
You can hide/stay hidden
multiple paths
environment you can interact with
Augments you can level

Aside from the min cutscenes (which I agree are dumb), I don't really see how this is any different than the original from just what we've seen so far.
Guys, I love Deus Ex as much as everyone else, but let's face the facts here: We live in the age of multi-platform development. The golden age of PC gaming is gone. Done. Finished. I feel like some people here are expecting failure right off the bat without taking into account that times have changed. Look at the NMA forum guys, who damned Fallout 3 as being inferior to the original just on concept alone. Just wait and see what the final product is before you pass judgement.

The ONLY gripe I have is that it might set this standard of awesomeness with the mechanical augmentations that were considered obsolete by the time of Deus Ex 1. If Jensen is more badass and powerful than JC, it takes away from the fact that nanotechnology and biomods were superior.
Developers have confirmed you can't disable the object highlighting. Awesome.

I suppose, at the very least if it does well then developers might be temped to go back a decade for ideas and incorporate them into new games versus the endless amount of corridor and cover shooters we get year-in-year-out. Oh, and it might actually be twenty hours long or more! *gasp*
