not to be too sexist, but when I read that two of the three (now just the two) top managers for Windows development were women .... yeah, I'm not questioning where all this over fascination on glittery UIs came from.
But WIndows was conceived as a "glittery UI" to put over DOS. The whole point of it, at least to the layman, is to be a glittery UI. If you want to attribute it anywhere, attribute it to the fact that while loads of adults over a certain age still can't use a traditional PC, they can typically get comfortable using a smartphone after a few minutes. You see kids barely old enough to walk - no exaggeration - using iPhones now.

It's also kind of off the success of Steam, since if one could make an OS that was essentially just Steam, that also did Office and so on, it would be a strong step against piracy and towards PC as a solid platform that could more directly compete with consoles in terms of market share and average game sales.
I guess he doesn't like the new UI either.

Not to be offensive, but you are an idiot, and could you please leave that sexist crap outside?

Also, where in the article you linked to does it say that Sinofsky "quit"?

(Note: No, I don't think you're an idiot. I'm simply illustrating that saying "not to be X" in front of an argument that's 100% X is not going to fool anybody).

Indeed, I thought all the glittery crap was because of Apple.

Quitting is hard to determine in the US for executives as often that's also used when an executive is fired. You rarely hear about executives being fired, they usually quite to pursue family life or a new challenge.

Yep. Wikipedia mentions a mutual decision to part ways, and links a blog that may be offering some more background information (though I can't tell how reliable the source is):

WHAT? Windows is WAY less glittery now. If the company is moving away from glitter AND that sexist crap was true, it'd have made sense to kick out the women.
Aero, Metro, and the MS Office "ribbon" all offer nothing in actual technical function.

pure fluff that does nothing but animate actions that the OS performs instantly, which is cool as a "bonus" but MS has been centering their launches around them.

two statistical facts that are based on real research (not just pulled out of my ass): #1 the biggest demographic growth in the office workplace is with Women & #2 women pursue appearance when it comes to buying office supplies. my wife worked at Office Max, you should have seen the ape shit marketing campaign they rolled out for this study.

the point being that MS is chasing a sales demographic instead of pushing for actual performance increases. they don't give a fuck about windows as a entertainment platform, in MS's eyes if people want entertainment they should be buying xboxs; Windows is for spread sheets & putting together presentations.
And down rated for stupidity, crude attempt of humour backlashing and sexism. You are a couple of decades to late with this joke.
