iainmet: T3 does everything right and evolved the series
Pemptus: Harrrbl garrrbl! No rope arrows and therefore verticality (the climbing gloves are a very poor substitute). And no swimming. And formerly huge levels now divided by mysterious blue fog and loading screens into tiny segments. And the fact that you can crawl soundlessly across any floor. And pretty much only one memorable mission in the campaign.
It wasn't bad, but it was a step back.
Git off mah lawn! :P
ROFL, you originate from Scotland, sounds like something from The Broons!!
I enjoyed the game must admit but the main problems with it was the fact it was designed for console (Origional XBox) and had to be pad friendly, the art assets on console were also used in the PC version so some look a bit low res but that is fixed easy enough with John P's Collective Texture Pack.
Thief 2 has to be one of the best games ever created and I still play it regularly but I honestly think that opening the game out a bit with the hub system wasnt to bad on T3, yeah the blue fog was a bit silly and the fact that you couldnt easily go across rooftops was a bit naff. Climbing gloves only kind of worked at the best of times. I do hope though that T3 will and its short comings will make the 4th game in the series awesome.
I remember on Thief 2 the first time I played it, scampering across the rooftops to get into the Hammerite temple through an upstairs window. Hiding in an alley next to an archway where there was a patrol of 5 guards. Sat watching them for a few minutes and every time they went past snuck up behind them, knocked one out and hid him in the shadows then back to hiding spot, rinse and repeat and they didnt even notice what was happening and numbers thinning! Another thing I really liked on Thief 2 was being able to sneak up on guards and stealing the arrows from their quivers and coin purses with them completely oblivious to you being there behind them.
