Official site.
RPGfan recently did a review and interviewed the publisher.
Discussion about the game on NIS America forums.
Siliconera article.
It's also completely DRM-free both as a physical disc and as a download edition.

FF7 is just an old PC game that doesn't run well on current hardware. Fan patches to the rescue if you care to putz with the game.

I can't comment on the translation though because I don't remember enough to compare between them.

Hmm. To narrow it down, if you want something easily emulable:
SNES: FF6, chrono trigger
PSX: xenogears, valkyrie profile, final fantasy tactics.
tomdelada: How about Recettear : An Item Shop's Tale?
Sure, the art style and characters are sweet enough to give you diabetes, not to mention cuter than puppies mixed with kittens, but the game doesn't take itself seriously at all and can be genuinely amusing at times. Not to mention the rather unique premise of running a shop where you sell the stuff you find while dungeon crawling.
Capitalism, ho!!!! I second this. Also, Carpe Fulgur is releasing Fortune Summoners soon, that one looks really good.

I will third FF6 as it's the only JRPG I've ever finished and truly enjoyed. It's got amazing scenes and a really brilliant story structure. One of my favourite games ever.
