no its ultimate boredom

At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old fart, the first sentence of the article should read "there's pointless and there's pointless".

I guess when it's a painting = art. Minecraft creations = boredom.

I think its more the point that because its a stop motion use of block placement they could have used anything that displays blocks to create the animation. They could have used Paint if they wanted to or even Word to draw the slides for the animation. The use of minecraft itself is not really part of this specific creation aside from being the used medium.
