It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I think the site itself is pretty good. But the forums have quite primitive functions, it would be nice if it had equivalent functions to XenForo.
While the site certainly looks good, I'm not sure I'd call the backend stuff marvelous. Maybe it was in 2008. Compared other modern forums software, GOG looks great, but is missing several features that I've come to expect.

xyem: Could someone give me a link the the site you guys are all looking at because the one I use breaks at the drop of a hat.

You see that darkened bar that goes across the bottom of the page behind the facebook, twitter, youtube etc. links? It doesn't even go all the way across..
Mine goes all the way across.
Could it be caused by a custom script you're running in your browser?
I had this experience a couple of times where a script for another site insisted on messing parts of non-targeted sites.

I know why it doesn't go all the way across and it isn't anything custom..

It's not the only thing that breaks either. In some situations, news items are cut off, so I can't see or click on them..
This site has a nice look to it, though I don't like the fact that I can't directly post pictures and videos.
And the seperate post/reply window that pops up without the possibility to preview your post kinda sucks.

Ok, it was just a quick thought based on my own experience.

If you don't mind me asking, why are a number of things of the GOG site broken for you?

Please see this thread HERE to install barefoot_monkey's Barefoot Essential's. This allows quick replies to posts without the separate window and also with post preview. It does not, however, contain the buttons for easy bbcode like the separate window does (you have to type the bbcode manually) nor can you attach pics (you have to use the separate window)

No worries, it was a reasonable suggestion as I don't exactly hide my desire to customise what I use to get it to Do What I Want :)

Most of the graphical issues crop up because the website devs have built the site in such a way that the site only displays correctly at 1024+ pixels wide viewing area. Size your browser to less than that and the site begins to fall apart. On some pages, you get a scrollbar, which reveals the bars not going all the way across. On others, like the front page, you don't even get a scrollbar!

As for why it affects me.. my monitors have to be in portrait due to space constraints, making 1024 pixels wide the maximum my browser can be on them and I spend some time using GOG at 800x600 for other reasons. I also have images turned off sometimes which has led to more than one mis-click on the rep buttons because alt text? Who needs that?

I know I am at the end of the bell curve with this setup, but it annoys me when the devs waste time making the site pretty (like the shark and the periscope, animations, shelf etc.) instead of actually implementing useful stuff like a working forum search, being able to tag your games, mobile version/stylesheet, optional public profiles or fixing the things that are broken like dropped PMs, forum eating posts, increasingly imprecise post timestamps..

Or actually making a test suite to stop people being able to create accounts with the same name as existing accounts, execute custom javascript on every visitors computer (because they have to have javascript enabled otherwise the site doesn't work) simply by posting a topic or it parsing things it shouldn't do. For example..

<
should render "& l t ;" (without the spaces) as they is what I typed.. instead, you (should) get "<" (unless they fixed it already). And if I then edit the post, it will have changed to "<", so you don't even get your original typed post back to edit.

I did make a topic about consolidating all the forum issues in one place, which I need to bump/update...

Thanks for taking the time to explain.
You may have a unique configuration, but a number of features/ functions you mention should work none the less.

The unreliable forum search function is indeed very irritating - it's beyond baffling how many search terms return zero results.

I also dislike the need for javascript - like alot, but then I only log into my GOG account when I actually want/ need to interact with it - javascript is a requirement for most sites to work properly these days and I made it a routine to temporarily and selectively allowing them.
I guess I"m not that vocal about the things that do bother me on the Internet, functionality wise that is - maybe if I (and others) were more like you things would improve.

And may I ask for a link to your thread on the forum issues, since I'm pretty sure it'd be impossible to find it via search?

Sure, here it is.

jamyskis: Another criticism - the menu bar at the top uses mouseover, which makes it impossible to use on a tablet or phone.
Not really? It works fine on Android; just hold for a long click.
My only complaint is the forum search - there should be ways to sort the results. It's something expected in any search engine, after all. Other than that, the site is great. Never had any problems with payments and I love the design.

I find that pressing on a button for a moment, then dragging to somewhere else on the page and letting go causes the menu to stay open until the screen is touched again, which allows the buttons in the pop-out menu to be pressed easily.
