OldFatGuy: I hope you guys wanting this badly have played it before, because for those of you who haven't, let me tell ya my "fun" experience.

Oh wait, there was no fun in my experience.

First, NO MANUAL.

You're thrown into a game, with no manual to give you a heads up as to WTF is going on, there is a movie scene, and it just... stops. And your character is standing there, waiting for instructions from you. Yeah, that same you that doesn't have a clue about WTF is going on because there is no manual.

Turns out your supposed to get him to move. Great, I finally figure out how to get him to move. So he's walking around in circles. No popups telling you what buttons to mash or where to go, you just walk around in endless circles bumping into the door because hey, why not figure if you walk into the door you walk through it. With all the info you have to go on, that seems as good an idea as any.

Only he just walks into the door. Finally after 10 minutes of walking around and cussing, I happened to mash the A button on my controller while he was standing close to the basketball. ALL RIGHT!! That did something. A cut scene, where he shoots a foul shot, the ball lands on the floor, and.... back to square one. I figured maybe he had to make 3, or 5 or something foul shots in a row and that would "start something". Nope, after about 8 or 10, I stopped trying. Again, nothing popping up on the screen to help you and no manual.

So I walk over to one of the doors and mash the A button again and another cut scene, he opens the door, enters another room and a phone is ringing. I walk over to the phone, mash the A button, and another cut scene talking to his girlfriend. Great, I think, something is starting to happen.

Two door later, five miles of walking around later, and finally a couple of popups that finally helped a little later, I'm in this long corridor, with a flashlight taped to a gun, and something that you can't really make out (it just looks like black fog on my screen) is blocking your way and a popup comes up and says to shoot it. And which button to hold to aim. (Finally at least SOME help).

So I shoot the "thing". Six times. No more bullets. No help on how to reload, no help on whether you need extra ammo or if you just need to reload. Thinking I needed extra ammo, I spent another hour covering every inch of that long corrider and the room above where the gun was found in the first place and found no ammo, and pressed all the buttons on my controller trying to reload and after that hour, my last one, I wrote this.

For those of you who haven't played this, you've been fairly warned.

OldFatGuy: Dude, when you pay cash for a game, it should come with the manual if there is one since that is part of the game. And if you found one, apparently there is one.

So, another strike against buying this, it isn't even complete.

darthspudius: You could just stop moaning and use the manual? If it doesn't come with the game common sense would suggest searching for one. In a place like GOG you'd think this kind of practice was fairly normal.

How stupid of me to think it's a good idea for consumers to actually DEMAND something from sellers. After we give them our money if we aren't satisfied we shouldn't "moan" and instead should spend more of our time and/or money and "fix" what every those poor poor sellers couldn't get right.

My bad. I should've learned this lesson about a million times over the past few years, but I just can't seem to learn it.

Note to self: Never moan about things you spent your money on. Sellers are teh awesome and are not to be bothered with actual demands from consumers.

Gonchi: While I don't disagree with you, I think you're making a bigger issue of it than it is. The game has plenty of problems but a lack of documentation isn't one of them. The game has a manual, retail release had one, GOG version had one, I don't own the Steam version but it should definitely come with some kind of manual. Have you posted about it on the Steam forums?

@OldFatGuy, being old you indeed should stick to some of that sarcasm you display out of anger because you speak truth, to help you ease your nerves. Though, how many times a game released digital is missing a PDF manual nowadays..? I just can't count and it has become a habit for me to search the install folder or on Google for them, so now you know, please do so as well..

Still please consider this, if you don't purchase something from an informed decision but on impulse, your rant about getting surprises you might not like is losing much credibility and legitimacy, sorry to say and no judgment involved, just friendly advices!

OldFatGuy: First of all, whether a purchase is an impulse or not, doesn't excuse the fact that consumers are entitled to get what they pay for. And a manual, or guide, or other such documentation sold originally with the game is as much a part of a game as the actual bits and bytes. So whether someone buys on an impulse or does careful research, they deserve to get what they paid for. So thanks, but no thanks on the friendly advice part because my rant is losing legitimacy not because of what type of purchase it was, but because this is the state of consumers today.

When "consumers" (and I use that word lightly given todays brand) like something, any criticism is always, ALWAYS, knee jerked reacted to negatively, and personally, toward the person doing the criticizing. This despite the fact the person criticized some game, or some company, and NOT those doing the responding. But for some reason that I've NEVER been able to, nor care to, understand, people completely outside the realm of who was being criticized always react that way. I could maybe, MAYBE, understand it from say the games developer and writer, or the company's CEO or President, but from other everyday people who have nothing to do with it and weren't being criticized to take it personally??? It's beyond absurd and just laughably out loud funny now. I do it and just wait for reaction to get laughs for me and my friends now sometimes (not this time).

This thread discusses Obsure being available now, and by extension is a form of advertising, as it can result in purchases. So I used this thread to relay my experience, ONE POST, and every bit as true as the sky is blue, and then one follow up post to declare that not having a complete game is another reason for those not to buy. I did this for the benefit of people who don't have it, have never played it, and may be reading this thread.

But for those, who again have NO PERSONAL STAKE in this, who love this game, they respond how??? Just as they always do.

And consumers wonder why businesses get shittier and shittier every day. Publishers reading threads like this know one thing, or should know one thing. They could, if they chose, start to charge extra for manuals after reading this thread. I guarantee you, ABSOLUTE GUARANTEE YOU, that if they did, and I and any others complained, there would a whole legion of people, CONSUMERS, running to the defense of said company's, against their own self interest as consumers.

So please, don't tell me my type of purchase is causing my rant(s) to lose legitimacy. Today's breed of consumer is what is losing legitimacy.
