Since people often only post when they have problems, I think its time I shared my experience with Good Old Games' catalogue. They deserve credit for getting things right the majority of the time.
I purchased Independence War Deluxe and Freespace 2 from here for the paltry sum of about £8 all in. Not only do they work perfectly, I get practically everything I would have gotten with retail copies barring a printed manual (without having to pay obscene prices at auction).
No problems with downloading and installing either, and of course there's the DRM-free nature of them - pretty much *the* reason I used GOG instead of Steam.
So a big thumbs up from me. I'll be making more purchases in future when prices drop or new games arrive on this platform.
low rated
you bought 2 games and the success rate is 100%? holy crap wowwow great service!
I'm being a sarcastic jerk I guess. I just think this topic is kind of silly. It's slightly less silly than somebone buying 1 game that works and making a post about it.

Well, you're welcome to ignore it. What's with the negativity anyway?
I should also point out that IW is a ***** to get working in XP...the GOG release saved me a lot of trouble.

sure I'm free to ignore it. I'm also free to comment on it.
I just think it's kind of silly that you're trying to offest the negativity of with an endorsement saying you bought 2 games and they both work fine. How many opportunites have you had for something to go wrong with a purchase?
On the flipside I would also think it's silly for someone else to try convincing that gog totally sucks, just because 1 of their first 2 purchases had technical problems

Ok, I have nearly 50 games from GOG and have had zero issues so far. That good enough for you?
Go GOG! :p

Well, on the up side, it's far better than him buying one game, doesn't work right away, and then judging the whole service based on the experience he got from that one purchase, and of course letting us know about it. It's a breath of fresh air that we get a vocal supporter in stead of a detractor.
@H2IWclassic: good to hear that everything work fine. There are a lot of great games here, and it really IS a relief when you finally get your top old game working great.

It would have been better if the OP had waited longer and posted something like those stats, yes.
also I have bought 20 games and I have had issues with 5 of them. Take that buster

I have 81 games from here (including the three freebies), and I've had major technical difficulties with only 3 of them. And one of those works perfectly now. I'd say that's a pretty good track record as well.

So I'm only entitled to comment on the service when I have the time\money to purchase 20+ games? What's the logic in that?
no you're free to comment on the site anytime you want.
"better" meaning more convincing that gog is a great site
I own 127 games and have had no significant technical difficulties with any of them. That's impressive.
see there ya go.
without my input and arguing people wouldn't have chipped in with their stats to strenghten the argument for supporting gog. I have now done gog a favor.
Somebody give me my rep point back!

100 or so games, 3 issues which were solved within about 20-30 min of tinkering. 1 game I can get to work on my laptop but my work computer wont run it (then again it isnt exactly geared towards gaming)....

To be fair, he must have done something useful to get 170+ points in the first place...right?
