zomgieee: I was doing my usual browse through the local pawn shop today when I was delighted to find an original Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura, with original case (no box or booklets sadly.)

The asking price was a pittance: $5. This has totally made my day.

It now takes pride of place next to my original Fallout 1 and Baldurs Gate II: Collectors Edition CD Cases.

This is the first time I have purchased an old physical PC game (I purchase old consoles / games all the time. Point in fact, I also picked up a PSone today for $20. Its so small, white and cute! Oh and Tomb Raider 2 to keep it busy..)

Has anypony else got some GOG rescue stories ?
Roughly a year ago I purchased Arcanum (approx $17 USD) factory sealed from a game dealer here in NZ that tends to turn up some really old stuff from their warehouses every now and again.

Last Christmas I rescued a GOG that not even GOG could rescue - Hostile Waters (approx $7 USD) from our resident auction site.

Same auction site also netted Lords of Magic, Age of Wonders II and Ultima VII with expansion.
Sure, about 6 years ago while browsing in an autobooks store in Burbank, Ca I found a perfect copy of Full Throttle, the asking was only $5 bucks, hell that made my whole year and it's still the best deal i've ever found at any shop.
uh a while ago(7yr?) i i found oryginal boxed Battlezone in a market on sale for 50 cents... someone propably lost this copy a decade ago in storehouse lol
Hey, there's a copy of Alien Cross Fire at my local pawn....it's got all the manuals and maps and about $1.25 USD.

He didn't have the base game so I didn't bother with it but you think I should go back, grab it and grab the base game from here?
I often go to local library sales. So far, the best finds were The Even More Incredible Machine in the house-shaped box shrinkwrapped (!), all three volumes of Sherlock Holmes The Consulting Detective, American McGee's Alice, and Grim Fandango. All complete, about $1 in each case.
A couple years ago I rescued a Homeworld from a pawn shop. Sadly, I've been unable to make it work on my PC.
It seems too good to be true, but I have found a dude willing to part with an original System Shock 2 including box/manual etc in good condition for $5.

Surely this is too good to be true. But I'm going to make a 2 hour round trip drive on Saturday to find out..

See, who says Germans don't have a sense of humor ? ( I work for Bosch, and all the managers are a riot. )

Heheh, it's actually a decent distance away but nearly the entire trip is on a highway. (Mind you we don't believe in going faster than 100 Kph around here. We are a small, backwards people..)
a few years back, i managed to find a boxed copy with (all the goodies, manual etc.) of System Shock in a shop that sold alot of other unsold stuff from more "succesfull" shops. The price was only set to 10kr (about 1€ or $1.2).

also managed to find unopend boxes of Earthsige 2, Heretic 2, Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain and NAPALM (also known as NAM).

too bad they had to close the shop, but considering that they sold one of the most sought after game for 1€ they might have "digged their own grave", so to speak.

rescued this week:

Baldur's Gate Shadows of Amn: 4 CD's in a carton box with the original booklet,
Icewind Dale Heart of Winter: 2 CD's in an ordinary plastic dvd-box, but also with the original booklet (and an advert for the 'new' (in 2001) game Art of Magic).

OMG the offer was genuine! Today I got System Shock 2 complete with box and all manuals for $5. It's in very good condition, 8/10 with a few minor dents.

Its like I rolled a natural 20 in game collecting !

I also picked up 'Bust a Move 4' for $5, also complete. It brought a warm smile to my face when I saw 'Interplay' on the back of it's box.. Ah, Interplay. How we loved you.

I didn't rescue it because it wasn't for sale and it was probably doing fine, but a couple years back in my then girlfriend's house I found a box with Baldur's Gate and possibly the expansions? I actually hadn't ever played BG at that point though so I only had heard about how great it was. It was her brother's actually and so had been just sitting in the basement for years, which is sort of cool.

I also found just the CD and case of Heroes of Might and Magic II when I was getting free furniture from a house my friend was moving stuff out of. I just was looking around and found it sitting in a box and was like: sure, I'll take this. I couldn't actually ever get it to run though, even with the gracious help of GOGers.
