As for me there's too much tell, not enough show. The smaller you are the more you have to show if you are not a big name like Fargo or DoubleFine. I see pretty graphics but there's nothing put together in a fashion that shows me, the potential backer, why I should invest in this project.

I would recommend, in the event of kickstarter failure, to get a bank loan, get a decent demo that shows the game world being utilized and then put up a kickstarter.

I'm siding with the Codex on this. A few people in there were pointing out the problems with the reward tiers, which seems very close to 'Day 1 DLC'. I'm giving the developers the benefit of doubt when they said this wasn't what they had in mind, but building a shrine in-game for someone who pledges a big amount, versus creating an entire dungeon for that person, are two entirely different things. One adds aesthetic value for every customer who buys the game; the other creates content exclusively for that one person. Because of this, I'm not donating, in addition to the observation that their vision for the game seems to be very vague.

I'm certainly not tired of Kickstarter though. I still think it's a great way to reward early pre-orders, so long as the developers actually make it clear during the process how much people will have to pay after the funding ends, so that at least those who cannot afford it during this period can get an idea of how much money to set aside for later. KS is only a fad as long as the people who use it allow it to be one.

I'd like to see a detailed explanation of the gameplay if a demo is not possible. When I hear turn-based you've got my attention but there's many ways to implement a turn-based combat and not all of them that good.

Other than that the timing might not have been the best.

As a voice actor I'm almost desperate enough to donate money to land a role.

As of now mainly roles in some animated flash projects and some things for fun. I'm also involved in things with local filmmakers and stuff.

Getting a chance for a role of anything with actual production values can be a bit of a problem though, which sucks cus its the whole "How do I get work which gives me experience so I can get this actual job that would give me more experience?" Its a hellhole even with those of my friends who are hella talented.

Bloody well this. Tim (Double Fine) and Brian (inXile/Wasteland 2) are very well known and people trust them. These guys should make a name for themselves in small ways, and build up to something grand. I doubt this project is going to make it. :p

People say this a lot and, I totally understand why, but I think they're fooling themselves. When DoubleFine went up there had been dozens of nearly complete projects with tons of existing "show" as you put it (design docs, engines, demos, etc.) and they never got funded.

DoubleFine and inXile are trading on their reputation. If you have a smaller reputation you quiets simply have less to trade and probably need to expect less. Having more "show" isn't going to do much to make up for a lesser reputation, or at least it certainly hasn't in the past and I see no reasons provided why that may have changed.

That's a bit more like it, we are slowly starting to get an idea of what you've done and your vision. You should update your front page with this information too. Your Kickstarter video should be talking about the game and giving us an idea of what it is, not just an early tech demo that leaves more questions than answers.

Please don't think that the gaming public is just trying to make things difficult for you. We all love to support an indie developer with a great idea and talent. However, it doesn't mean we will just throw our money to anyone (we have to work for that money you know : )

There are two more things I would like to see before I back this:
1. Evidence of good writing. An RPG is an enormous investment of time, and other than combat, much of that time is spent in dialogue. I want to know that the writing is of a decent quality (particulary since you claim there is so much of it)

2. Evidence that you will be able to complete this project with the $300K. I know you've completed 2 large mods, but they cost you nothing as far as I know. You haven't completed any large commercial projects like this before. I am skeptical that (despite your best intentions) you will be able to complete this, even with $300K. You need to convince us.

Again, don't take this as "bashing" you or your project. I want to back you but you have to convince me (and everyone else)

I understand your concerns.


1. There's gonna be an update tomorrow with more info on the plot and we'll upload a few convo examples too.
As for the humorous aspect of the game: being incessantly humorous could become very tedious in no time, we know that, so don't expect "lulzy" stuff (Oh boy, how I hate that word) dumped on you every 5 seconds.

2. I don't exactly know what evidence would be suitable for you. I've been making games since 1990 starting with Newcomer (C-64), I worked for Digital Reality and Stormregion (big Hungarian game studios) on 4 commercial titles + 1 addon of one of these and on top of NWN modding I worked on several small projects as well. All members of the team (except Lenore) are industry veterans (freelancers) with 10 to 20 years of experience in game industry.
You may find info on Ultimate Newcomer, the 3rd version of the game. It is still being developed and its release date has been delayed several times. You have to know that I'm not working on this project whatsoever.
