Hello, does anyone know if the versions of Shogun Warlord Edition, Medieval and Rome Total War that are included in this box set work or can be made to work on Windows 7 64-bit without much trouble?

Also, does anyone know if those versions have any serious DRM (SecuRom, StarForce, etc.)?

My uncle has decided to ditch his box set and I really want those games if I can get them running. Thanks in advance for answers.

My PC specs in case that will help:

Intel Core i5 3570K
8 GB (2 X 4GB) RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 (Gigabyte)
Gigabyte Motherboard
1TB HDD
16:9 monitor with resolutions from 800x600 to 1920x1080
No dedicated sound card

I have it, and it worked the last time I tried. Also, the more recent(5-series and higher) nVidia
graphics cards seem to have fixed the z-buffer issue that made Shogun nearly unplayable, so
that's good too. I'm not sure about DRM, but it's not something that installs, that much I do
know. Don't be surprised if the menu for Shogun randomly turns black in patches. That's a cosmetic defect from the original release that never got fixed. Also, I seem to recall some issues with Medieval, but you'd have better luck with a Google search for compatibility solutions.

Enjoy!

As far as I know, older total wars only have a CD-key check, and the recent ones from Empire onward only have Steamworks.

That's good. What about getting them running on Win 7 64 bit? I've tried searching on google for an answer with varying results (some say they run fine, others have trouble), but I can't find anything for the specific versions in the Total War Eras box set. staticblast's post is encouraging, but i'd like a second or third confirmation of the three games working on Win 7 64 bit.

Are you certain of this? We are talking about this issue when you can't click and select unit using hardware accelerated mode?
I did a quick reinstall of my Gold versions of the games in this collection to check for compatibility. I don't own the collection, mind you, just the individual retail games. Here are the results:

Shogun Gold: Works flawlessly both in battle and on the campaign map, some distortions when changing the resolution, back to normal when you restart, CD check

Medieval Gold: Works flawlessly both in battle and on the campaign map, CD check

Rome Gold: Works flawlessly both in battle and on the campaign map, CD check

My PC config:
Windows 7 64bit Professional
Intel Core i7-2600K 3,4GHz
8Gb Ram
AMD Radeon HD6870

Well, Starforce did also only check if the CD was in the drive ;-)

While it was at it, it grope a feel of your system. Some driver penetration might also have occurred. Needles to say, a cock block was enforced.

Yeah, but it was "only a CD check". ;-)

(I wanted to say that "only a CD check" is not enough to ensure a copy is clean.)

The Creative Assembly, being unwashed barbarians, would not pay a tribute to various "copy protection" schemes. Until the might of the Steam Empire came along and took their Empire to expand their empire.

But seriously - there is nothing on the discs. Medieval 2 demanded a key activation during installation, but not the previous titles.

So basically, each game should require only the CD being in the drive and they work fine in Win 7 64 bit. I seem to recall testing the Total War Eras box set on my uncle's Win XP PC and those versions seemed to have just the old minimal CD drive check like the originals, so I guess it's fine. Hopefully there wasn't any DRM added in the Total War Eras versions as that box set came out in 2006.

Very sure. I'm using the 570, and the issue is no longer there.

EDIT: I went and tested it just to be sure, and it definitely works. The 5-series does not have the issue.
