Ok now this will unfortunately be very vague. Close to 20 years ago I remember we had this local TV program aimed at the youth and it sometimes had short gaming segments. Of the couple of times that I happened to see an episode, I remember three games : Doom 1 or 2, Some sort of Jungle Book platformer and a mysterious third title:

Okidoki, so the basic idea was that some king or lord gave you a piece of land for some reason or other. On this piece of land you had a little house (i think), and I understood that the basic idea was to protect/develop your piece of land. The gameplay that I remember was isometric top down (i.e. diablo/nox esque) where you controlled the character running around on the land. I seem to recall that in the clip, the dude had a stick (like the least cool of the tmnt, or 2nd least cool depending on the day of the week) and he fought off invaders on this piece of land. I think that the game was probably DOS era.

(Btw off topic if you dont mind :P did anyone ever play NOX? Is it any good?)

NoX has been named several times in the "favorite game on GOG" thread. It's fun but honestly I got bored of it after a while.

No idea on your mystery game, but I was pleasantly surprised by Nox. It's basically a Diablo style game, but I found it a lot of fun if you're in the mood for that style. I just happened to hit it right when I wanted something like that and had a blast with it.
How about The Horde?

Hmm k. I always wondered about it since I loved watching the 'coming soon' / 'sneak peek' clips that came with Red Alert over and over. The other game, was Lands of Lore 3 and I remember thinking that : "Wow, this looks awesome!!" No gameplay of course, only bits and pieces of the games' impressive fmv

That's immediately what came to my mind, as well.

(jaw drop - literally) No ###$@# way! That's it! Looking over it on mobygames I notice that I completely forgot the most distinctive part : the guy got the piece of land after saving the king from choking on a piece of meat! The funny thing is, its actually Kirk Cameron playing the role of the servant XD
Game looked better though, in my 20 year old memory of it (1994 game so I'm not far off :) )
It seems that, at least upstairs, games do become better with age :P
Oh right The Horde with that actor.. the same one with the banana video?

My memory tells me that the game is actually really good, at least I had a lot of fun with it back in 90s. But since my memory, just like yours, can have this little issue I cannot guarantee that the game aged well ;)

I've heard that Sang-Froid is supposed to have a similar gameplay (plan and construct traps then fight monsters) but I haven't checked it yet.

Well, I'm of to abandonware to look for it regardless :) Thanks again!

I tried it from a certain abandonware site maybe 4 or 5 years ago and it was still fun. I played it at a frirend's house on his 3DO ages ago, and then tried it on Sega Saturn/Dreamcast? a while after that. I just loved that game.

I have Sang Froid and they are mildly similar, but completely different.

Cool :) I did manage to get it running with dosbox and it runs pretty well. Great concept, only the controls take some getting used to - specifically item selection. I don't think they made this with the pc as the main platform in mind.

And now I'm actually thinking where is my CD with the game... ;)
