It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Hello everyone,
I would like to update you on the latest changes to GOG Downloader (the optional app that can be used to download your GOG.com purchases).
We have just released an updated version (0.9.30) which includes three important things:
1. a faster app core (thx to updated Adobe AIR Runtime, and jQuery 1.3.3)
2. updated file resuming, witch will now allow:
- more reliable auto-resuming, witch should fix _some_ of the problems
- auto discovery of incomplete/complete files
3. an option to send bug report to gog.com
If you have the downloader already installed, you will be notified about the update next time you launch the app; if you don't have the app yet, check out the list of downloads in My Account page for any of your purchases)
2. UPDATED APP CORE
While updating our source code, we also updated all libraries involved which should make the whole app a bit faster and less resource hungry.
3. UPDATED FILE RESUMING
This was, and still is, the most important thing about the downloader. We have received numerous reports from our users, that there are issues with this, especially on slower, less reliable, connections.
The real problem with fixing this is actually recreating this situation, to have a peek at what's really causing this. We tried a lot of different setups, we've used faulty network hardware, we used cellphones as modems to access Internet, we tried disconnecting cables on different levels of the connection, we used software to slow the connection down, we tried downloading files to very slow hard drives, but so far we couldn't recreate problems that some of you were experiencing.
So, as the first step, we changed the way that files are handled, discovered, and resumed. It should help with at least some of the problems.
The second thing, was to enable the downloader app to discover files from previous sessions. This means that if you have an incomplete file backed up before the downloader encountered an error, you can copy that incomplete file into download folder, then add the game to the downloader again, and the app will continue from the incomplete file instead of starting at zero. This is hardly a resolution for the problem, but it will at least allow for some temporary workaround, until we get all the issues sorted out.
So if you have problems using the downloader, you can try to:
1. Start the download normally
2. From time to time, make a copy of the temporary files in the GOG Downloader downloads folder to a safe backup location
3. If the downloader encounters an error click "Send report" (more info below), and shut it down
4. Copy your backed up files back into GOG Downloader downloads folder
5. Relaunch the app, and resume the transfer (or add the game again using the website), the transfer should resume at the point of last backup
Please remember, that this is only a temporary workaround as we work on fixing all the real issues.
3. BUG REPORTS
As mentioned before, we are adding an option to submit bug reports straight from the downloader. Every time you encounter an error while using GOG Downloader, you will have an option to "Send report" to us - please click on it, as it is essential for understanding and solving the problems :).
The report includes:
* GOG Downloader application logs (detailed information about file transfers and errors)
* your gog.com user name
Report does NOT include:
* any personal or hardware info (no hardware logs, no apps list, etc)
We will keep these logs as short as possible and we'll be using them only to find & fix bugs in GOG Downloader. After that we will delete them. We won't spam you, won't spy on your system and won't create any stats regarding downloader and it's usage.

It's happened to me as well. The first time i always get the error. The second attempt works fine.
Perhaps it starts before something else is ready.
Thanks, GoG team. I'm getting some pretty awesome speeds right now.
Consistently between 2-3 MBps, per download, for multiple concurrent downloads is orgasmic. I never see such numbers downloading from Steam.
Downloader sucks very badly, guys. I could just about tolerate having to install an adobe product to use it if it actually worked properly but it doesn't. I'd rather you sorted out the problem of resuming downloads with my already installed 'DownThemAll' manager (access forbidden - which is usually the message when the download screws up in the first place, too).
Very NOT impressed, given the size of the downloads involved and the amount of money I just spent (albeit at good prices for each individual game). I'll have spent another 10% on wasted bandwidth at this rate, seriously.
I'm getting some varying download speeds now. Most make the 1-2 MB/s mark, but for no apparent reason some files only download at about 10% of that. Notably some of the bigger .bin files in multipart downloads, like il2-sturmovik-2.bin where I can only get about 100 KB/s download. No matter if I retry later, it seems to not want to give me a better speed.
The only thing I want is something that prevents corrupt files... I won't have internet connection tomorrow and I really wanted to play Pandora Directive on Christmas, but the second part of 1.2 GB is corrupted and there is nothing I can do about it, it's pretty lame. I will try to download it again with the browser, but I am not hopeful =/
(testing, testing)
I've been trying to back some stuff up recently, so I (over time) queued up all of my GOG games in the downloader. The downloader told me they all completed properly, but when I tried to install one, it was corrupt - about half of them were.
Perhaps it would help if the downloader verified the files after downloading, rather than just relying on the installer to check that they're OK?
I have a problem, I keep loosing as much space as I download on C:. That is I have the installer installed at E: (although I previously had it in C) and I have the download folder at E:. And when I download say a 100 meg file I end up with the 100 meg installer in the download folder and 100 meg less on C: I don't get back. Is this due to some cache it uses on C: that it doesn't clean up? In what places may it use a cache, I have been looking but are unable to locate it..Oh and I am on XP 64 pro.
hi im new and am having trouble. the game i downloaded has got to 75% and is asking for authentication but my username and pass dont work

bandyman87: I have problems with the downloader too but i found a way to work around it, Everytime i open it up to dl a new game it comes with " There was an unexpected error while initializing GOG Downloaer, please try to launch the app again" the title of the error is Adobe Air, Ive reinstall it a few times but i still get it. I basically just start it again and again until it work, sometimes 3rd or 4th try.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Or could it be just Adobe air just doesnt like my pc mabey?... At least i can still dl my games :)

Same here. Vista enterprise 32-bit, newest Adobe Air.
Sadly it seems that I won't be using the downloader - I've been playing about with it for the past few days, and currently I only have one game queued, yet the downloader process is taking up nearly 1.5GB of system RAM and 25% of CPU time, and still giving me a slower download speed than I would get through the browser. This is on a quad-core CPU, and is pretty much unacceptable. I can appreciate it's in beta but for me at the current moment it's absolutely not worth it.
What happened to the sticky?
Anyway, I've run into some problems after last AIR update. I cannot bring downloader window to the front. It appears at taskbar and it runs in the background. I've tried reinstalling DL and AIR both.
So, has anybody experienced similar problem? If not I just assume that's sth is wrong on my end ;).
I have a (probably stupid) problem with the downloader. It is probably trivial but right now it is a pain in the ... back.
When I launch it, it is minimized in the lower part of my screen, and I cannot maximize it to - say - cancel one download - or launch a new one. I just see "Arcanum 2% down there.
This happened after I copied it the savage way for my C: Drive to my D: Drive (two hard drives - nothing more fancy).
I tried to erase and reinstall, to no avail.
Anyone of you has an opinion ?
I am also having a problem now. After using the downloader with good success for about a week, it now no longer works after reinstalls and reboots. It just sits minimized and says "downloader" despite having a game queued... anyone else having similar issues?

Same problem here after the AIR update, so it is not only your system. It does download games thou, bought the UFO weekend deal and it worked fine.
