Sachys: Awesome - but I'll wait until they get beyond the alpha to try it I think
Fair enough, but they'd appreciate feedback if you ever change your mind :)

keeveek: Btw is there an easy way of tracking in which star systems I already been? There is hundreds of them, some of them are very small...
Not really. Try to be systematic in your explorations, and focus on systems with a high likelyhood of valuable minerals.

Also, it's a game where keeping notes is vital. Occasionally you'll get information such as coordinates to specific star systems, or semi-vague descriptions of star systems, and you really need to write these down so you can locate them later on.

Yeah, thanks for the tip. I figured that out after playing a while. I think I will play with notepad turned on :P

Good idea. A lot of the seemingly pointless galactic gossip and bits of ancient history you pick up are also important clues, so it's vital to pay attention in all conversations.
Yummy! Gotta try this one

keeveek: Hey, help me with one thing, guys. I can refuel only on Earth base? How on earth I am supposed to
travel to different star systems, collect minerals and go back?

htown1980: At a later point in the game you will get a device that lets you go into hyperspace which will save
you a lot of fuel.
Device leads to Quasispace (green).
Hyperspace is normal travelling method (red).
I downloaded a map and I'm marking in Paint which systems I already visited :P I upgraded a ship a few times (new offensive and defensive mechanisms for mothership :P) I think I understand the basics of combat.

I don't know why, but this game is very addictive :D

It is, it really is. It's one of those game that by all the rules of common sense should be an unplayable mess, due to its weird mashup of gameplay types (a space exploration adventure game with resource gathering, arcade combat and RPG elements), but for some reason it all comes together and makes up a fantastic game. The quirky humor is also just right for the game.

One thing though: Don't expect to complete the game on your first playthrough. The game has a built-in time limit (I won't say anything about what it is, because that would spoil the story), and so you need to complete it within a certain time frame, or you lose. I'm afraid it's rather unforgiving like that.

However, it's certainly fun enough to warrant playing through twice, and with the knowledge you should possess on your second playthrough, you shouldn't have any problems.
8 (or is it twelve) directions of movement instead of free 360 degrees seems looks a bit weird in high res, does it not?
Oooooo. I think I'll wait until it's in beta at least, but I'm definitely going to keep an eye on this.
The new artwork is weaker.
Hi guys!

I'm the project leader and did most of the artwork you see in the game. I really hope you guys try it out. We've got a few surprises for those that I think you'd like.

To those that prefer the old artwork. You can play the game with the new OR old artwork. It's your choice. We've got a few new features that didn't exist in the original. So, I encourage you to try the game, just to check out what's changed.

If you're planning on waiting until the final game, you may be waiting a long time. You see, while Ur-Quan Masters is a time capsule of the original Star Control 2, my HD project aims to bring the visuals as though the game was released today. As time passes, & technology improves, we'll add more features. We just won't change the basic gameplay or story. Like it or not, many gamers today are put off by the low resolution, & dated graphics. They pass up classic gems like Star Control up. I just want to encourage new fans to try some of the great titles of gaming past.

Beta 1 should be out in 2-3 months. The main feature is really just adding a 640x480 mode. I also hope to get Android support, and additional languages in there. The game is playable from beginning to end. If you can play the hi-res mode and don't need the game in Russian, then I'd say try this version.

@Kalirion: 16 angles. We're working on re-writing the melee engine to allow for more angles & smoother rotations. Old melee die-hards can keep it at the 16 angles too. We're also increasing the frames per second to make it an even smoother experience.

This! I love the UQM despite first playing it only a couple of years ago, because I'm fine with old graphics, no nostalgia required. I completely understand that some may be put off though so this project can only be a good thing.

I have a feature request though, can you add in a 960x720 mode? This is effectively the 4:3 version of 720p (not to mention exactly 3x the original resolution) and would be very useful for those of us with 1280x720 monitors. At the moment, the only way I can view the HD version is at 640x480 (which is then being scaled up by my video card).

I'd really love to, but unless we can get additional programmers, this just isn't feasible for us. Right now, we can only double and quadruple (double the double) graphics. I'd love support for widescreen gaming, support multiple resolutions, but we've only got 1 programmer working on this and he doesn't have the time. Perhaps one day, but it's just not going to happen anytime soon. If anybody programmers can help, we'd love it.
