Hey, guys and girls... Anyone here recently been to Greece for a vacation? Me and a few of my friends are thinking about going to Greece in the start of August, and would like some info about some places...

Corfu / Lefkada / Thassos

For those that have been there, can you please share some info about the water, the beaches, the night clubs? Any suggestions for some other places?

Insider info from you guys in Greece would be nice too. :)
I've been to Kefalonia with my girlfriend at the end of last year and it was great over there! You NEED to rent a car but the island is o so beautifull, it's got a lot of terrific beaches, good food and not that touristic either.

Corfu is great, has a very medieval and western feel (due to the close proximity to Italy and some vast periods of time belonging to Italy), the waters are great, the beaches are greater, the nightclubs are supposed to be OK even though I haven't visited any due to being a blackmetalhead.

Lefkada is also nice, I had a great time back in '96 when on vacation with my parents, and has awesome beaches (especially Porto Katsiki).

As for Thassos I haven't been there, but I've also heard that it's also a nice place, even though more secluded, silent and spiritual (the ancient temple of the Cavirs is also there and everyone keeps saying it's a rather mystified place).

And as the dutch GOGbroer said, Kefalonia also kicks ass, but using an old time cliche, "you can't go wrong with Greek islands", so whichever island you choose as a destination, you'll have a blast...

Sidenote: ... as long as you know what to reply (the correct answer is simply "FYR") once someone asks you where you're from, and remember not to wave any red Vergina flags around.

Nooooo! I'm from Republic of Macedoniaaaaaa! To waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar! /puts on his patriotic shield with a picture of Alexander the MACEDONIAN, and {add_some_history_crap_here_that_I_really_don't_give_a_fuck_about}...

/joke

/care about politics and crap, really, I'll say that I am from the North Former North Yugoslav North Republic of North Macedonia represented by North Skopje, or whatever, if I have too. :) It would be nice if people didn't give a damn so much about this stuff, as I personally I'm not offended by saying that I'm from FYROM, but really, just plain and simple Macedonia would be nice, no "Republic" or whatever, because really, no matter how you put it, I was born in the geographic region of Macedonia (and whether that took place in the Greek / Macedonian / Bulgarian / Albanian part, doesn't really matter much). :)

We have some offers for around 150 EUR for 7 nights in Lefkada, and 190 EUR for 7-9 nights in Corfu... Gotta decide between those two now. Grrrrrrr... everything looks great to me.

Where did you find such offers, if I am not becoming a dick?

Edit: I spent 2.5 years of my life waging internet wars with Skops about the hellenic root of the word "Makedonia" and all kinds of crap. No matter how much bored and tolerant I have become of/on this matter as it's simply non-relevant to my personal life, I can not but notice that it's very provoking for any people (say an American from Texas) to have their neighbours from South of Texas calling their country "Texas", because geographically, it is around the region of Texas, and calling themselves "Texans". Let's drop it here however, as this is a vacation thread, and it should stay that way.

Here for Lefkada: http://www.ta-novatravel.com.mk/ponudi/leto/lefkada%20novo_merged.pdf

Basically, the price for 4 people is 440 EUR for 9 nights. Which equals to 110 EUR per person, and 45 EUR for the travel, puts it around 155 EUR.

And here for Corfu: http://www.ta-novatravel.com.mk/ponudi/leto/NOVO.pdf

10 nights, 190 per person, includes the travel expenses.

And why would you be becoming a ...? :D
I thought, for 10 minutes, that you all had to pay 150-190 EUR and I was like "what the fuck?". :-P

Haha, we can only wish. :D

By the way, how are the restaurants around there? Or are we better off making our own meals?

Sure, no probs, don't really care about this stuff, and I try to avoid talking about historic / political crap with pretty much anybody (people that I personally know too). Sorry if I offended you in any way. :)

If I were in your place, I wouldn't worry too much about food, but about the prices. Pay attention to what you're charged.
