Hi i,m having problems with connnecting my laptop (Vista) and my desktop (Win2000) and i cant connect is there a problem

i,ll be very thankful
There shouldn't be a problem between them.... How exactly is it that you're trying to connect them? In an internet networking sort of way or are you trying to do something like use the laptop as your monitor?
i mean im trying to connect my laptop (vista) to my desktop (win2000) to the internet and i cant connect so i need an guide...

i,ll be thankful
I suppose first off you need to have network settings to allow for shared connectivity in your computer, since I assume you're routing it through that. You'd also need to tell your laptop what kind of connection settings to look for, be it local connection or a network connection. Once that's done it should just show normally. I can't tell you how to do all that though.

You might be better off getting a modem to connect all your computers through instead though, it'd save you some aggravation of trying to synch both computers to each other.

Does one have either dual Ethernet, or both Ethernet and Wi-Fi? You need two broadband interfaces to use connection sharing.

But connection sharing performance sucks. You might want a Wi-Fi router instead. They're cheap.

i have 2 wireless routers... and ethernet cord and a modem plus dont have dsl service all i got is cable also i have usb for the modem....
The wireless routers will work fine if your computers allow wireless connectivity. It's just a matter of getting them hooked to the modem and actually running (I tried 3 months to get a wireless router working to little success, next guy comes along and gets it working in 10 minutes with the notes I wrote down based on the newest attempt).

If you get it running on wireless you'll want to have it password protected (I've computers and gizmo's that refuse to sign onto an unprotected wireless access). You'll also want to make sure that the wireless signal from the router will match what your computer/laptop is designed to connect to, as far as I can tell there's three different frequencies that can be used for wireless. If it doesn't work you'll need to consider a wireless adapter.

heres what i did i pluged the ethernet and dsl to my laptop to my desktop and it get connected and disconnected for 5 secs over and over
I'm not surprised that doesn't work. I think it means that you have a bad signal between them. First make sure the internet works when you've plugged the DSL line into just the laptop, and just the computer. Then when you try to plug them both together, go to connection settings, there should be an option for it under Administration Properties. Set it up to allow network and system link settings. It's not going to work without being allowed to run that way through the software. It'll still be easier however to connect them both to a modem (Which you'll plug your DSL line into, and then connect through separate ethernet cables to the computers), or like we said earlier, if you can get the wireless routers working, then it's DSL line to your modem, ethernet to the router, set it up through the administrative computer, if needed run the software for that router in your laptop, and connect like that.

If you don't have DSL service, and you already said you don't, you can't plug the DSL modem into anything. You need to take it back and get a refund.

I take it your laptop has the two interfaces (USB to your cable service, Ethernet presently unused) that you need for connection sharing.

You leave the connection to the cable service in place, connect the Ethernet to your computer, and enable Internet Connection Sharing on your laptop.

If you do that, but all you get is a connection that drops out, forget using Internet Connection Sharing and get a proper router (with the money you got back for the DSL modem).

Has NOTHING AT ALL to do with the OP's problem.

Sounds like an issue with your laptop, not with Vista. I have to support all releases of Windows, even ones as ancient as NT4, and Vista does not have any problem with connection sharing.

Stop derailing the OP's topic.
ok i formatted the hard drive and installed windows xp k so i do i get it work for internet
