Warners has just slapped a embargo on reviews for "Green Lantern",Unless they want to be banned from future Warners Critic's screenings, critics cannot release their reviews until Wendesday.
Not a good sign, folks. Studios don't so this if they are expecting a positive Critical response.
This, combined with some negative buzz from a few "sneak previews"and some of what we have seen in the Trailers indicates GL might be headed toward a Bombing Run......
I actually love it when studios do this. It provides far more information about the quality of the film than anything reviews could offer.
Warner Bros. routinely puts up review embargoes. It's not unusual for them, even if the film is a good one. They had a review embargo on Inception last year (though they did take it down before it opened), and it wasn't exactly a stinker.

This doesn't mean that Green Lantern is going to be no good, or any good. It does mean that there's something about the film that they don't want discussed openly before it opens.

The real red flag is if the studio omits prescreenings.
This reminds me of this.
I think the trailers they've released have suggested it's not going to be a great film.

I expect I'll wait for the Blu-ray release and rent it. That way, I won't mind too much if it isn't good.

I'm more looking forward to X-Men First Class, which I'll be seeing this tuesday.
Film industry has been making more and more duds every year it seems. Thank goodness for DVD's, may they never shatter.
You know it occurs to me that the movie and game industries are a lot alike in many ways. Most games today seem to put graphics above story/gameplay, and most movies seem to put special effects above story/characters. A nice little parallel there I think.
Wish they would both realize that if made right, movies/games that are entertaining for adults can also be entertaining for teenagers and younger too; instead of just focusing on what they think teenagers want...Well, all that matters to them is ticket/DVD sales, explosions draw them in so give them explosions, it's sad really.

QFT. This just means they know it sucks.

This, they only do so if they expect the people who buy tickets for such a show would do so anyway (e.g. horror movies), or if it's horrible.

Actually, especially in the summertime the review timing can act as free advertising. They want them to come out at the same time as the movie, not a week before; even if it's good after a week or two passes you might forget about it or be considering a different movie by then.

It's going to be a mindless comic book fluff movie. Anyone that expects anything more is going to be let down. Will it be entertaining? Sure it will. Will it be remembered for all time? Not a chance. :)

I'm still going to walk in with my tub of popcorn and coke zero and enjoy the show not expecting anything but to be entertained for a few hours with friends. :)
Here the movie was to be released on the 17th and got moved back to august 4th. By that time I wont even care. Ill just watch the new animated one.

The preview made it look very good visually. I am whatever the opposite of fan is as far as Reynolds is concerned but I quite like the job he's done in the few scenes I've encountered.

Exactly. Here we usually get them the same week or at most one week later. I think its also a bad decision because school start in August so most people will be busy.
Whether it's a movie (like this) or a game (like DNF) not allowing reviews before release is a great indicator of a product's (lack of) quality.
Everything about this movie looks awesome that is the Green Lantern Corps. Everything else, including Ryan Reynolds, kinda looks just so plain that it's going to be really hard to tie together the incredible world of the Green Lanterns with, well, the pretty boring looking Earth. I think the clip in the trailer of the people running from the smoke that's presumably Parallax sums it up perfectly for me: generic.

But I'm hoping. Hal Jordan is boring as hell, and the only reason I suspect they're calling him Hal Jordan in the movies is so the fans will come see it, while they just give him the better Lantern's personality. I just hope Reynolds can pull it off.

My expectations are higher in production quality, but along the same lines as the first X-Men movie.
