Arcanum, Gabriel Knight, Zeus+Poseidon, Quest for Glory 1-5, and 27 other Activision games 60% off!

As the weekend draws near, it's time to reveal the next exciting promo on GOG.com. Behold the [url=http://www.gog.com/en/promo/activision_weekend_promo_05_10_12/]Activision Greats, a superb collection of 31 memorable titles. Oh, wait... that's wrong. What I meant was: 31 game boxes. Some of them contain more than just one game, so the actual number of Activision Greats amounts to impressive 54 titles! And you can get them all 60% off until Tuesday Ocober 9 at 3:59 AM GMT. Let's take a peek into some of the boxes!

Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magic Obscura summons the spirit of Fallout into a unique world where steampunk meets fantasy in a creative mixture of imagination and pure isometric RPG awesomness. In Arcanum, you get the absolute freedom to create any kind of character you want and pursue whatever quest you find the most fitting. If you're looking for a game that will drain dozens of hours of your free time--here's your best pick!

Gabriel Knight, a tormented young writter, came to be a celebrity of the point-and-click adventure genre. The first game he stars in--subtitled "Sins of the Fathers"--features beautiful pixel-art graphics, over 7000 lines of fully-voiced dialogs, and a dark story balancing on the verge of madness and occult. The game launched a successful and recognizable series that earned its place in the adventure games' hall of fame. Be sure to check the other two games that complete the trillogy: Gabriel Knight2: The Beast Within and Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned.

Quest for Glory 1-5 is an amazing collection of Sierra's innovative action-RPGs. Each of the five games can be played as a whole but you can also treat the series as one big adventure, as the character and his accumulated wealth can carry on from one game into another. Become a mage, a thief, or a knight and explore the five huge worlds, each based on a different culture and mythology, from Germanic fairy tales, through Arabian and Slavic folklore, right down to Greek myths. Experience the game that set many standards in the "new school" of computer RPG.

Those excellent games are but a tip of the iceberg of Activision awesomeness. There are dozens of other fantastic titles you can grab 60% off, so head out to Activision Greats promo page and go nuts!

Now... Give us Larry!!!
I think there is a possibility that there is some issue with those, I know Codemasters owns the IP as I recall Al Lowe somewhere saying that Codemasters still owned the IP when asked about who owned what when it came to Larry, but it's possible that Activision owns the actual games similar to how Brian Fargo owns the Wasteland IP but EA owns the rights to the first game itself.

Dju: Never ever be sorry you were enthusiastic about something ;-)

This being said I remember playing all the Quest for Glory back to back until I reached the final fight in the game, and it kept crashing on me so I could never finish the game.

Does anyone know if I could re-use my old savegames with the GOG version and finally finish this quintalogy with my good old paladin?

That'd be awesome :-)
Well depending on what patches were used on your version it's possible, if the version you played had the same patches as the GOG versions of the game then it shouldn't be a problem.

morecowbell24: Let this mean a new wave of Activision games is on the way, and by new wave of Activision games I mean NOLF
It's not available anywhere online for some reason (afaik), so that would be a tremendous accomplishment. :)
Great promo again. My favorites of this bunch are the city builders (I can only recommend getting them to anyone who likes management sims - Zeus is even quite accessible for total newcomers), but it seems there's something for nearly everyone.

kalirion: Dammit GOG, my backlog is already humongous (probably over 1000 games by now) due to the various indie bundles I keep buying, and now you do this??? ...
Seriously you're not a gamer but a collector. I can say this because my backlog is only about one hundred and even I consider myself not a gamer anymore. :)

Recently I've picked up the habit of buying games, installing them, playing for 30-60 minutes, and then uninstalling to conserve disk space, and shelve them "for later". I think that's even worse than not playing them at all.

Talk about first world problems. :P

Can't I be both?
Okay, so I've now also picked up the two Phantasmagoria games as well and the last several within my budget that I'm interested in are S.W.A.T. 3 and the Zork games. Does anyone care to vouch for those? Quite on the fence of picking them up to be honest.

Would like to have picked up pretty much all the other "Quest" games as well but, as they're a bit dearer, I'll wait until they're on sale again another time.

Great promo, GOG.

Yes you can. However I recently after buying 5 or more games realized that I am not buying them because I really want to play them, maybe I want but I know that it is very unlikely. I just don't have time for playing only enough time for buying. I mean, yes you can be both and you probably are both but from my experience if people buy alot of games they usually have less time for playing them than they used to have. Nothing important, just a notion of changing habits.

Well, I don't usually buy games just to have them, unless I'm making up for pirating something back in the day (ex Goblins trilogy.) So any bundle I buy must have at least a couple games that I can see myself playing and enjoying (at whatever point in the future I actually get to it.) I even plan to give the Zork Anthology a fair chance... someday. But I skipped Return to Zork and Zork Nemesis because they don't seem to be my type. Already have Grand Inquisitor from previous sale (still waiting for me to play it.)

Yeah, that's pretty much what happened, except a bit less screaming and a lot more running around and hopping more than a kangaroo on meth. I then considered calling in sick today. I still don't know how I mustered the self-control to go to work.
Dawww! No soundtracks?

Great deals though.
Questions about potential purchase:

Interstate 76 is on my wishlist but i've heard it has some problems. Did the community ever fix the problems and are those fixes confirmed to be virus free? Read on the forums but I was hesitant to use the fix though a few people have said the warnings on the fixes are false positives. Just want to be sure. Also i'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

Didn't some Larry enthusiast acquire the rights to the franchise and just did a kickstarter to remake them? Like this one: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/leisuresuitlarry/make-leisure-suit-larry-come-again?

Thanks for the answer! Maybe my reasoning is flawed, but I guess if I had the same patches back then than GOG has now, even if I can re-use my savegames I'd still be stuck, no?

Anyway worth a try :-)

Dang, you're right! Looks like Activision doesn't want to let GOG provide them. Arcanum really deserves to have its music here, as it's free elsewhere anyway.

tfishell:
To be fair, the Arcanum soundtrack should just be in the sound files in the game installation. I used to use music from it in the background of presentations.
