I still remember swimmin' in the Pond, talkin' to the fishies (Big Fish reference) about great games, and everyone (in the thread) was talking about a sale going on here at GOG. I blindly bought Sanitarium and The Longest Journey based upon their recommendations, and the incredible sale price.

Within a few weeks, I had added Gobliiins, Myst Masterpiece, Divine Divinity, and Simon the Sorcerer.

It wasn't until THIS YEAR that I finally played The Longest Journey, and I'm SO glad I finally did. From there my adventure game intimidation quickly evaporated, and I started playing more and more, until finally the Pot of Gold promo drew me here into the forum.

I continue to be impressed by the generosity of strangers and the lack of trolls. Not a small thing considering the size of this forum!
Looking for a place to buy shooters, like Duke, as well as a Steam alternative. I got interested into getting Shogo, but never got an account until I was browsing around and they had the Fallout games for free and the price was right, so I got one.
It wasn't the games, per se, but some frequent mentions in the US version of PC Gamer magazine several years back, especially in articles that gave the retrospective view of classics. Sounded like a great thing to have - a site dedicated to DRM-free classics that actually work - and it brought me back into gaming after mostly losing interest for a few years.
The DRM-free ones. :P

Seriously though, I joined because of the announcement on the old Witcher forums of this cool new idea they had of starting a digital distribution storefront that would sell old classic games DRM-free. That was enough to hook me.
DRM-free The Witcher 1-2 were probably the biggest reason, but I would have come here even without them, I gather.

I just felt it was such a bold move someone would release such high profile games without any DRM at all, while all the others seemed to dwindle more and more into always-online and installation cap DRM schemes. I instantly knew which market I wanted to support with my money.

I admit it was also very cool to see some older multi-CD games being released on one convenient installer which needed no CD swapping at all anymore, like Phantasmagoria, Interplay RPGs etc.

Phantasmagoria 1 and 2, indigo prophecy and alone in the dark 1,2,3.
A lot of people (well... mostly Novotnus, Licurg and tinyE) know this by now, but due to my Nox CD getting lost while moving -- and eventually being found again, right after I had bought it on GOG --, I ended up looking for places online to buy it. Nox brought me to GOG, as it was the only place I could find that sold it, digitally, optimized and absolutely DRM-free!

Soon, I got for free (!), bought [url=http://www.gog.com/game/beyond_good_and_evil]Beyond Good & Evil to relive the experience, since I don't have the boxed copy anymore, nabbed Alan Wake and American Nightmare during a chin-drop sweet promo (I think I paid like €5 for both games!) and took the chance to buy all the Infinity Engine games I missed out on while growing up (specifically Planescape: Torment and Baldur's Gate 2). They also had some pretty neat indies that I tried and instantly fell in love with. From that moment on I was hooked, and GOG is now my go-to place whenever I feel like getting new (or new old) games.

Also, it doesn't hurt that the community in here is incredible, and the GOG team's dedication is unmatched.

The game that brought me here initially was Duke 3D. Was using a copy with eduke32 and their site advertised GOG since it was available here at the time. Eventually I caved, came here, got Duke 3D, Septerra Core, and Stonekeep since there was a sale going on. Been around ever since caving on sales every now and again. Good times...

Too much loot. =)
I don't recall what brought me the 1st time, but I had apparently made an account at some point. Maybe I followed a link off the Witcher page? Later on, I came back for the Might and Magic games. So you could say that hooked me.
It was the forums and the games for me. I spent weeks reading Neverwinter Nights and Icewind Dale forums before joining and downloading. DRM-free digital downloads at great prices, can't beat it!
I always liked the Oddworld series,

When i found out that Oddworld Strangers Wrath was available without steam here, it was a no-brainer for me - and i've been lurking around ever since ;)

Later the HD version got released here at no extra charge. - Win!

Chronicles of Riddick and Legend of Grimrock were the first games I bought during the summer 2012 sale.

Not long after that I got the Witcher and Alan Wake games.
