My aquaintance with the Gothic series is short of 3 and Forsaken Gods. I've tried to get into FG but the engine was unstable, i guess because of Community patches while great are still amateur work, and the whole half a dozen hours i sank into it was quite uninteresting on a creative and immersive level, also that main character was indeed feeling unlikeable, forcing himself over everything and everybody he would come across. I gave up for now, and i suggest to just avoid that forsaken gods one, my guess would be the 3rd is the most fitting to your request, being praised a lot more and all that, while 1st and 2nd have aged in matter of 3D that's all i can say about them.

i really love the first gothic the atmosphere and everthing, its the third person combat that puts me away from playing the game, i wouldn't mind the combat if the whole game was first person view. i would recommend risen as it was easier to get into, and that game have something elder scroll doesnt,, fire place and fry pan to cook food on,, would so love to do them in skyrim

this is probably going to get downrepped to extreme levels, but i thought gothic 4 arcania was the best gothic ever. i suggest starting there. plus, its so much easier then the other gothics.
I started with 2. 3 is easier i think though. 4 doesnt count.

F1ach: Shop around for Gothic Universe, I got it for about €6 a year or so ago. It has 1-3 and Night of the Raven expansion pack.

Dunno why people are complaining so much about the controls, I played it at release and nobody I knew at the time that played it, seemed put out by them.

But yeah definately start at G1, I dont really get what you mean about the Steam Sale tbh.

AFAIK the GoG version of G3 has the community patch included.
I was just talking about how even though Gothic 1 isn't on sale on GoG today, like 2 and 3, I could get on sale somewhere else soon.

Steam is out of the picture though, turns out Gothic 1 isn't available in my region, too bad it seemed like the Universe pack would be a pretty good deal. I'll just buy it here instead, sale or no sale.

DotEmu has Gothic Universe and Gothic 2 Gold, and since their catalog is fairly small, it comes up rather often. Also DRM-free as well as English, French, German, Italian and Spanish language included.

You'll likely end up getting G1 at regular price, it's one of the least discounted games on this site. It wasn't even on sale last Christmas.

I have no idea of which Gothic game is best for beginners, but it seems that free ones are usually well received.

Gothic 2:

Edit to remove code.

May be a good idea to PM the code?

A "Ninja" code, for anyone to grab :-)

Thanks for intent, though.

No need for sorry at all, just a testament to the character of many users here.

Anyone could have grabbed, none did (believing I made a mistake and was intended elsewhere,) my salute!

Triock, please enjoy.
