If we're talking about the lore of the fantasy epic, then the Witcher. It's a great blend of low fantasy and high politics; something like the Song of Ice and Fire in game form. You get to see the lives of small people and how the war affects them. Five years ago I'd have said Baldur's Gate (or indeed the entire Forgotten Realms), but that setting is too epic for its own good.
