I run a very small role-playing guild for the upcoming games Guild Wars 2, and TERA. Right now I'm thinking about holding a contest every month until the games are released. I'm planning on giving away GoG games as contest prizes and was curious as to what kind of cool ideas the community GoG had for the contests I could run? Granted, we are a role-playing guild so for the first contest I was thinking about a story entry, or something like that. But I know that it won't be everybody's cup of tea.

Any suggestions?
I would reccomend balancing out to Effort/Reward ratio to make sure a lot of people enter

you could perhaps do quizzes? or some sort of scavenger hunt?

I remember years ago on another forum that I used to visit we had a contest of members making pictures regarding a specific topic/theme only using MS paint - that was some funny stuff

just throwing out some suggestions :)
Agreed, I'd say a free game is worth a little bit of effort though! Especially from GoG. xD I understand what you mean though, and I appreciate the suggestions. Thank you!

You could stick with the story idea but keep it short. Limit the number of words allowed and include various places, names, amusing objects etc that the entries have to use within the framework of their story.
Treasure hunts are always extremely annoying, "Every day I'll hide a letter in the banner of the site in no particular order and at the end of the week e-mail me the GW2 related word".
There is one dutch site that does these really annoying riddles that lead you to a part of the answer. Like they posted a riddle that lead you to the white rabbit from the Matrix and a new user called White_Rabbit that had a bit of the answer in his signature.
When you do things like that, the prizes had better be damn good ;)
I prefer the simpler ones, "What is the new race in this game?".
Or perhaps you could do a rebus, I haven't seen those in a while and I used to like them when I was a kid.

Oh and perhaps mad libs?
That way you get your stories and people don't have to write much themselves :P

In order to supply a decent response, I'd like to ask if you could tell us a bit more on your guild (maybe even a link to a forum or web appearance of some sort), it's members and how many/whom of them would be willing to assist on the contest.
Sure! Sorry about the delay in response time. We're just a new guild that's been forming over the course of a few months now, since the games we actually plan on playing aren't out yet it's more like a pre-recruitment so we can get a core of members before we actually get in game. Which is where a majority of our recruiting efforts will take place in.

Our guild isn't anything special, we're a Role-playing/Heavy PvE guild with some PvP sprinkled in.

Depending on how many people you want to join your contest I could think of something along the lines of:
*Write the description/background story of a TERA/GW2 character
*Design some art for our web appearance
*Create a little quest that doesn't follow the typical kill x monster, collect z items path
*Tell us what you're looking forward to see in and why you'd want to play TERA/GW2
*A little quiz on a RPG that's available for free (e.g. Ultima 4)
*What's a RPG you'd want to purchase from GoG and why?
*Play game X against our guild (would be best if it's join for free, like BZFlag, League of Legends, Meridian 59, Minions,...)

There's certainly plenty more, but I'll keep the posting short to see how much action you're looking for and how many of your fellow guild members would join in on hosting such a contest.

So this contest is open only to GOG members? Members you can gift the game to?
