Hey guys, im quite new to rts-rpgs (i have bought Jagged Alliance 2 and fell in love):

ok, here is the question:

Is there any rpg's on this site that meets my criteria? as followes

-- Has to be open-ended (or as non-linear as possible)

-- Replayability

-- *True Character creation* (personalise at the start of game/freedom in leveling system; i.e stat point expenditure etc)

-- Intense/dramatic story line; i.e "oh my god, why did that party member HAVE to die (story wise)? I'm going to cry for a week", etc

-- as strategic as possible (like JA 2), will settle for no-strategic (would prefer real-time battle system)

-- a sense of acomplishment: i.e I hate those kind of ending in games/stories when the entire game it feels as if your working for something really dramatic, and then all of a sudden it's like... "oh well, you saved us... well thanks i guess... no go home..." *roll credits*

-- $5.99 (if possible)

Thanks

Faenrir: Fallout games...

Not bad, i saw a mate play them... same sort of thing, but...
If you want strategy and RPG gameplay, you want the classic cRPGs like Baldur's Gate and it's ilk, but Torment apparently has the best story. If you want something more recent, try Witcher games, but I suggest just going for TW2 and skipping TW (my preference).

I also recently started playing Heretic Kingdoms the Inquisition, but while it seems to have a nice enough build, I don't think the writing or gameplay is that exciting; admittedly, I've only played 3-4 hours of the game.

On that note, these games aren't even on sale at Steam. What gives?
Darklands . The personalization process is one of the most complex I've ever seen in any game. It's also open-ended and has a shit-load of replayability . Only the graphics haven't aged well, but otherwise - great game , and fits your criteria almost perfectly .

Other options would be Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Geneforge and Wasteland .

The old Fallout games are in limbo now that interplay no longer has the rights to them anymore. We just have to wait and see if bethesda is willing to play ball and release the classic fallout games under their name.

Silent Storm is Jagged Alliance 2 set in WW2 if you like the strategy of Jagged Alliance but it isn't as comprehensive as JA2 is in terms of character creation and interaction between team members. The unofficial 1.13 patch for Jagged Alliance 2 brings in new gameplay features like a 100 point action point system and a new skill system along with literally every single gun known to man.
If you are a newbie to the genre go with the classics like the aforementioned Baldur's Gate and Planescape. If you like those then just pick any of the other's mentioned here because you really can't go wrong with any of them.

SHIT! I forgot Fallout was pulled!

There's honestly sadly not many JA2 style RPG/TBS hybrid games. Shadowrun is a good recent one, but it's not that open-ended. Banner Saga is the same sort of thing from what I hear, but I haven't played it.

Fallout and Arcanum are good games but they veer much more toward the RPG side of things and the TBS is pretty basic and less interesting.

Honestly Final Fantasy Tactics might be a great choice, though it is only on console. You could run it in an emulator, however.

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the best strategy games I've ever played, imho. I lost a lot of sleep to that game.
For 5,99? hmm

RTS: Total Annihilation Kingdoms

RPG: Realms of Arkania or hmm why not the recently added Summoner? one of the 1st PlayStation2 RPG (with 1st I mean oldest)
I'll say Divine Divinity I guess.

There's not much replayability since there isn't a whole lot of role playing/alternate outcomes to events or customization (you pick one of three starter classes at the start of the game, though it's not really binding and you can pick little bits from each class type as you'd like - just it would probably lean towards taking the most useful ones each time to get by). And the story honestly isn't very good.

But besides the first/last dungeons (which admittedly suck since they're unnecessarily long bottlenecks), it's pretty open ended and has a ton to explore and a lot of quests to do.
The Gothic RPGs sound close to what you're looking for. 1st/3rd person RPG with lots of customization. Not strategic though. Just one PC.

The Infinity Engine games are strategy/RPG hybrids. The Icewind Dale games focus more on action and greater customization. Baldur's Gate games focus on telling an epic and can be hard to get into. Planescape:Torment has the greatest story and immersion, but a slower and more intricate character customization system.
