ChaunceyK: Yeah, much too small to read. I like that it has the Pac-Man ghosts, though!

Miaghstir: TinEye can figure it out though, by finding larger versions.
That is really cool. I've wondered if there was a way to search images that way.

Now I've just gotta find a thread with the one GOGer whose avatar is all pixelated & looks like a man trying to slingshot a panda bear...

Nope, no good. And it was Smannesman I was thinking of.

EndlessKnight: I still prefer 80x80 avatars. They're not so large that they bother certain people, but are large enough to show greater detail. Heck, I like 100x100 ones a lot too.
Somehow I like the fact that GOG uses the oddball 49x49 size instead of opting for a probably more common 50x50 or 64x64. A very minor thing that makes the site unique in a way.

shadi.lahham: Also, in most cases, the avatars chosen were not very iconic or representative of the game.

Come on GOG .. you can do a lot better !
Speak for yourself. I happen to like a lot of them, even ones I couldn't envision as my own avatar. But my affection for the scrappy, overlooked Black Isle cRPG Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader led me to choose this avatar (Of Hernando Cortez, an NPC character in the game) when I registered on GOG and I've kept it since.

shadi.lahham: It's quite easy to add tens of Avatars to each game, you don't even need a designer for that, screenshot, cut, paste, save.
Precisely why if a GOG-ite could really be arsed he can crop whatever the hell he wants and upload it himself. It's not like we're forced into a pre-determined crop of GOG avatars.
from the comments here I guess I didn't make myself clear.

this issue was born when I suddenly needed about 300 avatars for all my phone contacts.
I had the brilliant idea of using GOG avatars. Why not ? this way I'd be associating my favorite game characters with my contacts ..

That's when I noticed that GOG is quite lacking in the Avatar department ( and other extras such as some mentioned )

I have quite a lot of games so I was hoping for a much larger number of avatars.

I'll check out RPGCodex thanks for the tip
