Eh, the best conversations are had among people who aren't arseholes at each-other, otherwise it just comes down to a shouting match. There have been controversial topics here — politics (one about communism a while back I think) videogames and violence, piracy etcetera) — and the best outcome is when there's a calm debate, not a game of "I CAN TYPE LOUDER THAN YOUUUUU".

Just because people are as a rule nice doesn't mean they're being all sunshine and rainbows and tiptoeing around anything that might make them have to think and voice (possibly unpopular) opinions.

I think the big problem is that it's hard to have a long discussion about just nostalgia. You can talk about a game as it relates to a specific topic, or discuss specifics about a game, but just gushing about how much you loved a game as a kid doesn't really lead to any discussion apart from "yeah, I loved it too. The end."

Personally, most of my childhood memories concerning gaming mostly revolved around console games. I wasn't much of a pc gamer as a kid, so any conversation about older pc games I wouldn't have much to contribute nostalgically.

I agree that the community here can be a bit too quick to direct people over to the wish list instead of taking it as a moment to discuss the game in question. Since just bringing up a game is the first step to breaking the ice.
