It's because the French Monk outlawed wizardry, declaring them all heretics and banishing them. Then all the warriors fell at castle Ubisoft in the crusade against Dr. M. Now we are but small group of rogues, waiting for the day that the chosen one will arrive...

Pemptus: Wasn't this riddled with horrible bugs and broken mechanics due to being rushed?
I might be thinking of another game with a similar title though.
Yeah that sounds like Dungeon Lords. I never even managed to get out of the starting sewer lol

Wizards and Warriors was pretty good once you got the hang of it, it became rather addictive. My friends found it hysterical because they started out in leather bikinis.

I remember playing an Oomphaz (elephant looking guy) as my main warrior, and I had hard time finding armor pieces that fitted him. That was part of the game and I enjoyed the challenge.
Played it a few years ago... got up to the second town and became stuck there because the gates were unclickable for some reason.

POLE7645: I remember it being being developed for four years. And it was being reviewed as something ugly, that smells old, that should've came out long ago and that should cost 30$ or less.

But it seems like it has been vindicated by history as generally decent.
As other's have said, you're probably thinking of Dungeon Lords. Wizards & Warriors got decent reviews, if I remember it correctly.

I bought it on release, actually, but I could never get into it.
At first I thought you were talking about this game.
Then I was like, "Wait, there was a PC version of that game?"
I was somewhat disappointed to find out it was something else.

That said, those games do look up my alley for different reasons.
So far 'only' 288 people voted for it on the wishlist, plus the mobygames scores aren't only decent and the reviews mixed, so you can't automatically count on other customers liking it, too. Maybe that's why it's not top priority at the moment.

That looks like Bionic Commando with a fantasy make-over, especially the trees!

I checked again that particular gaming magazine and it was indeed Wizard and warriors (it was a late 2000 issue). They praised the story and the mechanics (although they would've prefered to control whenever the game is in pause in combat like Baldur's Gate) but they panned the graphics and production value. They said they felt cheated with something that should've come up a long time ago. They finally gave 3 stars out of 6.
