Penumbra, Amensia, etc......maybe not ultra hardcore survival but still....
No it's time to play games we do like and stop focusing on/complaining about games made in our favorite series which we may not like.

I knew that answer will be like that. Amnesia and Penumbra are great but they are adventure games. They are scary, they are horror, but still it's adventure game. Survival horror games almost extincted.

Now you should know why we miss times when RE was survival horror game.

I'm pretty certain classical Survival Horror, starting with Alone in the Dark and polished up with Resident Evil, is an Adventure game offshoot. The focus isn't so much on shooting things, though that's part of it, but on the puzzles and solving them. Penumbra and Amnesia are, in fact, about as Survival Horror as one can get, really.

RE was similar though. Kill baddies and survive, just with more fighting and weapons. Plus adventure or no they're still survival horror. There may be more....I am just not thinking right now.

I think the "survival" definition comes into play when you are managing a lone character's finite inventory of limited resources within a hostile environment. Ridiculous stockpiles of weapons and ammunition, combined with regenerating health ensure that survival is never in question when playing COD. With a game like RE4 you may be in the yellow, thus burdened with limited mobility, and have to ask yourself "should I use my lone first aid spray now, or will I not see one in a while and maybe hold onto it for when I get to red?" or "which weapon should I spend money on for this upcoming fight?" I think a permanence in decision making is what gives a game a "survival" type feel. System Shock 2 had this, and survival within that game was ALWAYS in question.

Well unless you went the Marines route and mowed down everything that moved....well except for the hardest difficulty that is. But no matter your path the beginning levels were always very hectic, as well as some of the near final ones.

i think crossing over from the games to the movies in ANY way would be a crime since it would aknowledge that the movies have something to do with the games, and aside from names and some virus that makes zombies i cant see any similarity, they are not even in the same genre most of the time, the games even when they are made into straightup actiongames still have lots of atmo and tension and everything from a horror franchise you need, the movies are nothing but showoff for alice, straightup funny action, not even the music tries to make you frightened

its not only that alice isnt canon, alice has nothing to do with resident evil, she is just there to make a "cool" pose and kill things while loud music playes

even the most action oriented resident evil game is still some kind of survival horror, the movies are survival horror reversed since there is never a doubt about her killing the shit out of everything

I liked the first movie. 'Cause it dared having that rather wonderful dark humoured ending. Not that it had much to do with the games, but as a movie that made it at least quite ok.

I'm sorry for having tried to stand up to your opinion on an internet discussion forum. Going to go back to playing games that I like now.

Why are you acting like such a child over a reply I made and spinning it out of hand/proportion? I never stated anyone had to do what I said, but that it would make life easier for EVERYONE(or at least many) if people tried to do things that way.

I stand up for mine a bit strongly, yes, but is that any reason to act the fool when replying to me?
